Once had a teammate raging at me for my viper wall. Controllers dominate the pace of a game way more than a lot think. You don't just help your teammates peek as well, you literally control when they peek. Why did that reyna on my team rage at me? Because she pushed through my viper wall on breeze while we were planting and walked into a 3 man firing squad. You can't help it when your teammate is being stupid.

As an Omen main I was looking forward for the devs to add Harbor into the game, but honestly his kit is like a worse Viper, so I understand how he has a low pickrate. The reason I love Omen is that I can control the pace of every round and help my teammates out without presence, which means I can go lurk without risking the rest of the team. He is arguably one of the most flexible agents in the game. Omens kit can also be used as an initiator and semi-duelist with a bit of experience. Which is the reason why I have sunk almost 250 hours into this agent. (I also get my main in almost every comp match lmaooo)

It might also be due to the rr system. More kills is more rr so why would you go be the support of the team

I feel like controllers see much more play the higher the rank due to the fact that the controller players have to trust their team if the duelist doesnt entry, it doesnt matter how good the smokes are, if the initiator doesnt get info or flash your team into site, it doesnt matter how good the smokes are

Whenever i play smokes, the duelists on our team doesn't even entry So i play neon because of the ease of making space and entrying without the use of smokes Yes, gold lobby is the most selfish lobby in valorant so you have to take matters to your own hands

As an Omen main, you’re impact on the game and how well you do is very dependent on how well you’re teammates are, I can consistently be match mvp with good team mates, but with bad teammates (not ones without skill, but ones that can’t play as a team) I will typically get a very low kda, this also causes me to be stuck in bronze.

The first characters I picked when I started were viper and astra. I was attracted to the controllers playstyle then. Now the only smokes I can pick and comfortably play with are viper and omen. I did eventually switch to initiator main as it gave me alot more freedom in what I do each round(also you could play a bit faster than a smokes).

As an ascendant omen main i really appreciate bringing light to controllers, after so long of playing controllers and fill in general i can say that controllers are very focus based and need high map awareness to help your team out.

Omen main here, but one of the things you forgot when being a controller is to lurk. Lurking is very important and can turn the tides when losing. So being controller just takes too much thinking studying the enemy strats, your teamates playstyle and a lot of decision making.

I think it’s the role you have in a team comp. It’s ok to push a site with a missing duelist or a picked off sentinel or initiator. If you die as a controller early or don’t use your utility perfectly to your teams execute, it could mean a failed execute and even a failed push/hold. The team relies more on your success than the bottom frag duelist’s.

As a controller main, I like them for their methodical outplays. Nothing feels better than outsmarting your opponent with a big brain play.

Viper is could also play as a sentinel on defense considering that her orb and mollies make it hard for the enemies to push which stalls time for your team mates to rotate over On top of that, you have a wall which is great for retake :D

I think Omen is one of the best agents in the game. He is so versatile and adaptive and can help the team even when he is lurking and not with them. I also think he is one of the must fun agents because of the outplay potential and just the general confusion of the enemies. Most people don't even know how good it feels to blind somebody, tp behind them and just knife them. And then look at the reation in chat. Such a good feeling.

For me, the hardest thing about controllers is how to play aggressively, I always feel as if I can’t push anything or the team will have no smokes for the rest of the round which is kinda frustrating for someone who likes to do aggressive and unpredictable plays. It doesn’t help when the duelists wont entry a site even when it is fully smoked which makes me wonder why they pick duelist in the first place. I only feel comfortable playing controller on defense because I know how to anchor a site

Controllers are severely underrated, as a viper main while everyone I know is locking duellists at light speed

Not sure if you have shown this in one of your tips and tricks videos, but many people don't know that the raze satchel doesn't deal that much damage if you instantly let it explode. You have to wait a second or two for it to deal 50 damage, which did win me some rounds.

Astra was one of the first agents I unlocked and so far, she is the most fun I've had playing controller

I actually enjoy playing controllers (mainly Omen and Viper). If you get good teammates, your smokes bring an easy win. If your teammates are idiots, you can just play by yourself and try to have fun. Dumb TPs with Omen, lurking through smokes, post plant line-ups with Viper and so on. People forget a videogame is supposed to be fun first and foremost.

I'm a viper main and I find controllers the most fun type of agent to play, but it can be very frustrating (especially in low elo) because I find that nobody really knows how to play around my util, theres only so much I can comm lol. The worst part is ulting on spike with numbers advantage and seeing the round get thrown away because my team is treating my ult as if it were the enemy vipers ult.

I think the reason people struggle to get good with new players they haven´t used before (in this case controllers) is because you have to learn how to use the powers well, so you focus more on that ten playing normally (i had this recently with Cypher)

For my case I was indirectly always forced to play smokes. I generally play valorant with friends and since they never use smokes it was the role i eventually took. Then it kind of stayed that way so I just use controllers.

as a both jett and omen main i do have to say i get a lot more tense playing omen than jett , with duellists you can repeat some tactics but as a controller i have to adapt way more than if i were playing jett

I'm omen main for a year and I can say, that everything you said in video is true. I can recommend playing omen, cause you actually don't have to be focused so much. And with his abilityes you can easily get to site yourself (like smoke to middle and tp there, then flash enemies and site is yours). Thx for this video MrLowlander

started practicing omen for weeks now. the agent is very fun since you can be lurking while smoking the site for your team to entry. i also love it when you try to pick up the spike from far away using the ult while preparing for the enemies to come to the site. there's also that trick where you blind the enemy and use shroud step to tp behind them hahahaha

I orginally played smokes for Astra because I just loved her character design and visuals, then it became me filling for smokes and now I instalock it. I absolutely love controllers

Controllers are probably my favorite agents to play. It's just so convenient to control visibility. I actually tend to have a hard time playing duelists because they are too reliant on aim. With a smoke, you can just sit in it with a shotgun, or spray through.

As an omen main, i generally focus on my mind games rather than aim and most of the time i end up with mid or bottom frags. U can only imagine the amount of toxicity i face sometimes. Like i can smoke at near perfect locations but end up being unable to clutch in the end and face the blame of not being good enough

As a long-time viper main, I definitely get the getting exhausted from using so much effort thing, after a few good matches I just play worse and don't have a lot of fun, I need to space out when I play throughout the day sometimes.

It's so weird to me how controller is the most neglected role in Valorant. Because the 2 agents that I like to play the most are Viper and Omen by far. Especially Omen with his insane kit.

I became a controller main (Viper and Omen) bc I had to fill but it's really fun once you get used to them. It sure does take a lot of planning and gamesense but it help you as an overall player

When you do something right as a controller, they never thank you, but when you smoke late or smoke the wrong spot. They instantly blame you, and rage. Also, there sometimes when you meet a team that doesn't know how to defend a site or entry, they just wait for your smoke to go off and then finally enter just to get demolished

That's why I main Omen, you can play for your team or just for yourself, but it's also fun to confuse your opponents with him and geting free knife kills

i am the guy who waits for all teammates to select first and hoping at the same time that someone would select a controller so that i can play duelist or initiator but end up playing controller because i know the importance of controller

MrLowlander, I have been a controller main since the beginning, and you make an excellent point regarding being the boss of the team as a controller. - However, that can also be the biggest downfall in games where nobody wants a boss, or everyone wants to be their own boss. Which, ahem, is 98% of low elo games. - This factor is undoubtedly incredibly frustrating, to every game see the potential of good teamwork slip away as the "boss".

i think a problem with controlers are that they often dont have an ability which can be used of themself, this is in exeption to omen blind, but the remaining controllers dont have anything to use of themself which forces them to be team orineted, which they all shouldnt have to, i hope they bring a new controler which is more independant but can also support a team to outplay the enemies, something more like omen

I think it's a high effort role that can be unrewarding because your team needs to follow up. I don't play them because I don't feel like I understand the game enough yet.

Im a viper main and i regularly place mid scoreboard with very few kils and assists but also very few deaths. I set up my wall as the barriers go down the third in site and i play either on site with my smoke orb cutting off access to site or on spike to play lineups off site

I tried playing duelists one time. Biggest mistake of my Valorant career. I bot fragged 3-27. So Omen will be my forever main.

I personally like playing controller since i think i like to play roles that are self-serving. I want to be able to smoke for myself in tricky situations. that's one of the reasons i main omen.

Controller is a vital part of the team, the problem I have with playing controller is that it doesn't match with my play style/personality as I usually like to burst onto site and usually I'm the one that's bursting onto site. This is because I get bored easily, I sometimes play cypher and I'd get so bored I'd start entrying as cypher.

As a controller myself, we don't get enough credit. Sadly in competitive, when controllers do their job well, but bot frag, they will still loose the most elo when they loose the game. It's sad :(

I would actually say that controllers can easier focus on clicking heads compared to duelists. Especially Brim. All your abilities will be used beforehand, as Brim you don't need to think about anything besides your crosshair except maybe for one smoke to place for postplant. Smokes down, Stim the team, maybe a molly to make sure they wont push the smoke at all and then RUN. Of course you could set up post plant line ups, but that usually means you play to survive and avoid gunfights at all.

I've always been a smoke main. Not because the team needs a smoke or because I'm not good at other roles... It's because I *cannot accept bad smoke placements.*

The main reason is because of rr and self reliance on teammates. If your duelist doesn't entry, ur smokes are useless no matter how good a smoke it is, The rr system also favours duelist

The first agent I unlocked in Valorant is Omen because I think he looks cool XD. He's pretty fun to play for a controller and I continue to main him to this day

I main smokes since the games beta! Most fun role since you can bait your teammates and playing smokes helps your clutch gene since you’re usually last alive. So easy to refrag on controllers too. Started gold now just hit immortal this act maining viper/astra and chamber every now and then. Definitely the hardest role but most rewarding once you learn it, you climb infinite

As an ex controller main ( retired from the game) I did instapick smokes, and i did find in all that time 2 people that complain about it. As you imagine 2 its not really a large number.

Tips for lower elo people (I've been there), use brimstone and carry games. You can study typical lineups, you can hold site pretty easily, you're fast as f- with your stim and do the shotgun in the smoke thingy that people in low elo can't counter. In my case, I can even entry for my team because no one wants to go in first, just drop the smokes and push in first because brim is an empty shell after the first 3 smokes are dropped so it doesn't really matter (If molly is not available). So yea, pick brim and win games ppl. o7

As a relatively new valorant player overall I don't really have this issue. I went from playing Neon, to Kayo, to Fade, to Jet, and now to Omen. Omen and Neon have felt the best out of all the characters ive tried personally, even though Kayo flashes always feel nice to engage with. I find it fun to block off sights and rush into site with my team behind me, maybe use a braindead TP/Blind and get 2 or 3 kills.

A good controller can carry a game by good timings of smokes, good placement and the occasional one ways that are really frustrating to push. The thing is, in ranked, the role is just filled. I mean there are less and less controller mains out there, the good ones I mean. I grew tired of my Omen lurking instead of pushing with the team so I switched to controllers from Sentinels/Initiators. Honestly, they almost play the same role. On defense, they stall and wait for backup and on offense, they watch your flanks. Not a really big difference

Same case in every PvP game pretty much, when the main focus of the game is generally to "kill" supports are going to be the least played of all. Then the only reason why someone would go to pick support is because some way that support is also good at killing people. lol

Being a Controller Main is the most painful when you see your instant lock duelists refusing to entry for whatever reason.

Being a controller main needs to communicate with the team lot. Gotto tell the team what you're going to do, ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE INSTA LOCK DUELIST THAT DON'T TALK IN RANK

I main viper and while yeah some viper molly lineups are good and can help clutch you the round, I feel like learning lineups for her dome smoke and wall are better. The difference between some minor adjustment on a wall to consistently cover the correct area and having a wall slightly off will make a larger impact on your games

Many player doesn't understand the role of controllers. For me they have no weaknesses and are always important in attacking or defending. As a controller main I agree to what you said that controllers needs to focus especially on reading the opponents' next move!

Oh yeah. I really love playing controller. I think that one advantage that you have for playing them, is that you can learn how to aim better in game and chill in though rounds with any other classes.

i tried astra today shes pretty fun but its a bit too much then i rather play omen or brim because on brim i can learn lineups and on omen i just like to be sneaky :D

i am a astra main that plays mostly controllers, it so annoying when teamates overrotate too much without communicating so then your smokes are more or less useless

I became a main Omen just because I thought that I could still entry with my tele if my duelists don't want to entry, and I was right.

i think harbor being so low in pick rate is just because not enough people have even unlocked it yet

i think a big reason is that new players see all these cracked duelists (tenz, yay, scream and so on) and want to be like them, and think not rushing in and making insane plays is boring

I main Brimstone with countless line ups, clutching a lot of rounds. those mollies are very reliable. Breeze is a very big disadvantage.

my first pc was potato, it can run valo but loads really slowly so i almost always end up last to pick, so i almost always have to pick smoker. learned a lot of things by playing controller exclusively, but yes it gets really boring

the thing i hate about astra is that if my match gets to 3 plus overtimes. i sometimes dont put stars anymore, too tired.

Controller is the most understanding role in Valorant. You need to patience. You alway do what your team want and you can't do anything that you want to do. When you try to take map control from other side instead create area for your teammate. A lot of Smoker are defensive and I really like how Riot make harbor more offensive. Even I mostly play Overwatch 2 but I still watch competitive of Valorant and understand games all the time

Controller have, apart from Sage, the most effective ability to individually form and adjust the geographical circumstances, thereby having the most passive power. They are utilizing on the middle backline, having a far range, yet not as much responsibilty to stay alive as sentinels

I really don't get why people don't like playing controllers. They're so much fun to play. Viper is, imo the most fun agent in the game. The posibillities are endless.

I'm a Fade main, but most of the time, I am an autofill controller. If no one has smokes on the team, especially on Breeze, the game is unplayable. Also if you have good gamesense, but you don't have so good aim, you still can make good plays with a controller. I play 5 stack with my friends very often. They can't win without my tactics, and I also can't win without their skills. So if you want to enjoy valorant, even if your aim sucks, but you're pretty smart, I recommend playing controllers.

I started as an Initiator but due to fact that nobody wants to play smokes, so I hv to learn to play Omen, Astra and Brim. Now i can say that i prefer playing Controllers than Initiators 🤣

I love playing controller! I consider myself a Skye main first and foremost, but I am very much a "fill smokes" kind of player -- I think good smokes are important to win games, and if no one is going to fill that role on my team, then it's going to be me! And I've found for me personally, the maps that I found most frustrating and difficult on non-smoke characters (Haven and Pearl for me) became some of my best maps when I started only playing controllers like Brimstone and Viper on those maps -- because when I play controller, I get a lot of freedom to defend certain angles, and can decide the pacing of the game.

i main omen and whats REALLY making me decide to main raze or a other duelist is because >3 teammates instalock duelist >round starts >they stay in the back like cowards making me have to push and ending up with me dying >when i ask them why they arent pushing they start trash talking u see what i mean?

Controllers are the most useful and the most useless class in the game. Placing your smokes can be extremely helpful but after that you are just left wondering “so what now”. You don’t have any utility to help you in fights (excluding Omen) and the best thing you can do is the occasional post-plant moly and what ever Astra does, so you are left there hoping your team is gonna utilize your smokes before they expire and not die and leave you in an unfavorable situation.

As an astra main I find it so annoying when people ask me for smokes. I DO THAT IN ALMOST EVERY GAME

I am a Silver Omen main. I nearly never have to play another agent since no one instalocks controlers and even if there is someone who plays controler you can talk with them before they lock in. I don't have the best aim but I still outfrag most of my instalocks dualists and even smurves. Controlers are super underrated in the lower ranks. It's only dualists with no brain

I'm a controller player. I'm currently Asc 2. I don't care about kills I make. That gives me an opportunity to make some great gameplays, guiding my team to victory. My experience playing this game from beta is that people generally don't listen to controllers. They do what they want. The thing I hate the most, the thing that ruins my whole match is, while defending, pushing with weapon enemy that is going eco. That's a 2nd round and a 15th round. Those rounds are the most important rounds if you ask me. Yes, you can lose even if you win that round. But those rounds are mentally most important rounds. If you have weapons in that round and enemy gets thrifty, people sink down and kinda give up. If you're ecoing that rou d and you win against team with weapons, it's a moral boost. Toxicity doesn't help, ever! I'm muting teammates most of the time, but I still give voice info to them. Because my voice is still important when playing controllers. Even initiators. When my team actually listens to what I say and understands it, we can lose only if their controller is smarter than me. Aim is very important in game, but gamesense is something that beats aim. If you do things the right way and try to read your enemy, you can often catch them off guard. So yes, aim is very important, but knowing what and when to do, gets you victory. So, long story short, I'm controller main because win>kills. That's why I rarely push in defense and sites that I hold are not easy to win. I literally guide my teammates to kill, by bating enemy. That's why I'm nit toxic towards teammates that have 5, 6 kills in the beginning of 2nd rounds, because they can be very usefull, even if they don't kill anyone.

It's just that we always stay behind and are always on the smoke screen so getting kills is hard and when you try to get kills for better RR people say you are throwing

You should try a Cypher series to see how bad/good he really is

I'm Omen main myself and one of the problems of controlles are that yout team always want you to get kills.i mean kills are good , but yout role is to set the site up so other's can push and make easier kills. (Not that you have to make no kills, but it's annoying to get shitt talked cause you habe 3 kills less than the topfragger)
