What does Malcolm Brogdon's addition mean for Celtics, Marcus Smart? | Celtics Talk podcast

My GOODNESS, I like the fact that Stevens have realized that the lottery is exactly that, a lottery. I mean, think about what the starting lineup is now: R. Williams, Horford, Tatum, Brown, Smart. Bench: Gallinari, G. Williams, Brogdon, White, Pritchard, and whoever else. Think about a second unit with Gallinari, G. Williams, J. Brown, White, Brogdon and a close out lineup of Horford, Tatum, Brown, Smart, Brogdon.........I dont know who would not pick Celtics as favorites to win the east. They have become A LOT BETTER. I still think they need another quality big. Would like for them to add Olynyk and call it a day.

We’re good with these additions. Don’t trade Brown 25 for Durant 34….KD has one or two years solid years left and avg 28/29 while Brown was at 23 and could get up to 26/27 in a couple of years.

You guys forget Marcus Smart was a starting PG in college for OKC COWBOYS I think the reason why we never seen him, as a PG is because he spent almost his entire career as a sixth man coming off the bench, I think that's why Marcus Smart isn't view as a PG is not that he isn't capable of playing the position but we use to him coming off the bench as a spark

Hopefully Brogdon and Gallo can play at least 50-60 games this season.A PJ Washington type of player can help a lot for the Celtics, specially now Horford is aging. They can also try Yabusele for the second time and also give Madar a chance.

Over years I've become a player fan,have no home team. I've always like Celtics and I also like Brogdon. Dude is very solid in all areas.

I like how how some of the best Brogdon highlights are him schooling Brown and White. Malcolm can play and get his own against good defenders. He is going to make the team better in the 4th quarter, which is when they sometimes break down. He has been good on teams that don't have a Tatum and Brown, so I expect he will be even better on the C's. Injuries have been a concern, but anyone who plays hard on both ends, especially on defense, gets injured because it requires physicality. This guy knows how to use his body and has a high IQ. C's made a very good move here.

These two additions are freaking awesome.

I'm surprised everyone is ignoring how good they could actually play together. Marcus Smarts shooting is very spotty but he can def hit shots and clutch shots. He can drive, is a pretty good passer and his defense is as good as it gets. Then you pair him in a small lineup with brogdon, brown and Tatum with either R Williams for inside presence or al/grant for shooting with defense and that lineup is beast. Also, when coach does his brown/Tatum alternating rest he can have brogdon on the court with one and smart on the court with the other and get great results while one of the stars is sitting.

JB and JT turn the ball over at about the same rate. They both have the same weakness, I don't get the people who complain about JB but praise JT.

Marcus smart is a good PG. He was one of the main reasons why we went to the Finals. But we can also say that he lacks some things that we needed to take us over the top. We can also say that JT should’ve played better. But ultimately the Jays getting better, brogdon being a better facilitator then smart, and gallo scoring off the bench will help us be a better team. Idk if it puts us over the top but it makes us better then we were last year. Other problems we have is rob needs to become an offensive threat besides a rim threat, Pritchard needs to become a better facilitator and scorer, grant needs to develop an offensive game, white needs to get stronger and a consistent catch and shoot 3 point shooter.

A lot of people who wanna trade brown or smart take for granted the chemistry these guys have. You trade these guys, the chemistry is not guaranteed with the new guys and everyone will have to figure out their roles again.

Should Celtics try to get Mo Bamba?

I believe Marcus SMART Best Play at Point Guard is YET to come due to this was only his first try at the starting PG this year and him there made the team better and harder for opposing teams to deal with! Their issue was being short handing in backups for starters. With exhausting due to not having solid depth they burnt out in the end last season BUT with solid enough Depth this 2022-2023 season they shall be better all around. The CELTICs shall find their balance in chemistry, consistency & health on the Offensive and Defensive end!!! Malcolm B will be a great guy to lead your second unit and that is where they need him and where he needs to be to maintain his health! The first ability is availability this would be great for him to rehab and he has a much better mindset as a six man than Dennis Schroeder with more talent around the same age!!! Lets Go Celtics look for Person whom a team wants to dump salary and obtain a pick for it and waive the guy because you should Develop Trevion Williams as he has the work ethic to be a solid backup for his pure Will Bro in Robert Williams!!!

This is very bad. His take on Smart is based purely on a very few memorable turnovers in the playoffs. Meaning he doesn’t watch the Cs regularly.

Serious question: can he stay healthy enough to make a deep run?

If he doesn't play at least 50 games and play throughout the entire playoffs, he won't be worth it, if he stays healthy, he can be a lot of help.

The Celtics lost largely because Wiggins drained shots every time the other Warriors had gone cold.

Marcus is a card-carrying member of the International Union of Bricklayers. If he is taking threes in the 4th quarter, you're in serious trouble. Brogdon and JD Davison are the type of all-around guards we need. Smart, Williams and Gallinari can be used as trade bait for either another young athletic Center or possibly KD. Robert Williams when healthy is still my preferred starter, and Horford is a good for 15-20 min a game.

This is a great trade you can have Smart come of the bench. Smart doesn't have to be traded unless it's something really big comes up. Adding more depth to the bench like Gallinari would give Tatum and Brown a chance to play less minutes n team can still get the win. Get another big to replace Theis.

Pacers fan here... I really think this is a win/win for both teams... True that Pacers didn't get much back (other than the pick)... But for Indy, this was all about taking an injury prone player with a huge contract off the books... Malcolm is a solid scorer/playmaker (when he's able to play) and just a good, high character dude... I hope he can stay healthy in Beantown... Maybe you guys can finish what you started and get that CHIP next year !!! 🤟

I love this team... JT, JB, Smart, Horford, Rob..... The whole gang. But regardless of what Curran says, I had a lot more "eye rolls" when our two biggest stars turned the ball over in the Finals by wading into a crowd looking for fouls. Smart at the very least would get on a run from time to time and began capitalizing on his low post game and bully ball. We need to stop acting like Smart is the unquestionable "problem" on this team.

pros and cons of trading jaylen and others for durant: Pros: 1. your top end talent gets better 2. most likely will score more points 3. other players will be more likely to come to boston 4. more likely to win a championship next year Cons: 1. will mess with the chemistry 2. have a smaller window to win it all as durant only has a few years left 3. team will be worse defensively 4. injuries: durant will most likely miss a lot of time. May lead to less W's I think the team looks great as it is. Ride it out with JB and convince him to stay. And you have the opportunity for multiple championships as opposed to one. If you lose in the finals with JB, you still have the year after. If you lose the championship with durant, then that likely will be your only shot.

Smart is not the problem. You listen to some of the dum dums in this town who will never concede their original opinion to the point where they sound delusional. The problem when they were one plus game from banner 18 was the two best players turning the ball over like a hot potato. They are young and on track for very successful careers. When you combine Smarts overall numbers on both ends of the floor, how close to #1 is he? Anyone who obsesses over Smart like this football pundit, does not understand the overall game of basketball.

For someone as limited as he is on offense, Smart is very overvalued in the league right now after getting DPOY and even more so after going to the finals. Smart is getting traded and the Celtics are getting a nice return out of it.

Brown for Durant all day everyday. The best player in the world for 4 years or brown who can't dribble a basketball,can't shoot free throws can't even be on the floor at the end of a important game. Hence finals

We will not win with Smart and Brown on the team together. Hey both make too many bad decisions and shots at critical times in the game. They are good players, just not together. Debate me if you think different, because I’m coming with film for proof. I’ve never seen a team full athletic but uncoordinated players as my Celtics. They trip over their own feet 30-40% of the time and take too many unnecessary and untimely 3s. Prove me wrong!
