The power of water is so scary as someone who lived through a whirlpool i can tell you the fear you feel when being dragged under water is unfathomable. My advice from my own personal experience, is to let the water take you don't fight it!! let it push you where it's going to push you and when you get the opportunity swim is hard as you can for the shore or low lying tree limbs. Dont fight the water save your strength and keep calm if you keep a level head your chances of survival increase greatly! Also protect your head and keep your feet in front of you. God be with everyone who is affected by this hurricane!

@G M closest thing to rip tide for me is when i almost drowned observing a waterfall with goggles on. It felt like i hit a wall under water that sucked me right in and started rolling me over and over and i kept pushing my arms out and legs out stretching them out as far as possible... but it didnt work i started taking in water and the sun started to get bright and with my last burst of adrenaline i stretched my arms and legs out one more time and found footing i was able to hit a wall and swim out from under the waterfall and stand up in more shallow water. I managed to make it to a sand bar and threw up several times then passed out on the sandbar in the sun happy to be alive.

Here in NC it's been raining on and off all day but the winds are picking up. Regular wind gusts have the trees seriously swaying and dead branches falling. Since we live right next to the walking entrance to a greenway, (a TREE lined walking trail) I find it amazing people are still heading out for walks, under those trees with strong wind gusts. Last year on this trail we a guy killed when a tree limb got him, people never seem to learn.
Becca Gee
Becca Gee Mês atrás
My cousin died when driving down a road a huge tree fell on her car. I have always thought it so unbelievable that she was exactly in the spot where the tree fell. I mean what are the odds? I would never walk under trees during wind/rain. The water makes the limbs/trees heavier, and the wind moves the limbs/tree back and forth.

@H ML People in Florida play golf during thunderstorms, and die from lightning. They were warned, so who's fault is it they were struck by lightning and killed? People leave their infants inside hot cars while they go shopping, the infants die, who's fault is that? People ignore RR crossing gates, go between and get hit and killed by trains, who's fault is that? The list goes on and on, hence people never learn.

I don't think it's right to say that... the people will never learn statement. I think especially if somebody got killed over something like that, you might make a more compassionate statement. some people are just going about their day not thinking and why would you blame them. nobody walks out to take a walk and suddenly get struck by lightning and dies. is that their fault? I think compassion should rule this type of thing actually it should rule everything we do. compassion.

"Surfer dude" had the most ignorant response. I don't blame the guy at the end holding the surfboard. I don't blame him for what he said, because I don't know exactly what the reporter said.....so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, that he was kind of ignorant of what the situation EXACTLY was that happened..... I do however blame the person who decided to air the guy at the end saying that. Like wtf!?!?! IT MAKES NO SENSE TO SAY THAT IN THIS SITUATION!!! What happened to those people were 100% out of their control... aside from that they could have chosen not to go outside that day??? Idk. It's like someone walking down the street and a meteor falls on them, and then someone says "Yeah, that person should been being careful". Ok. It wasn't like those people were out on the jetty... or playing in the water. They were walking on a board walk.

The surfer 🏄‍♂️ 😂 “Yeah ya gotta be safe with these killer waves out here man!” With his wet suit and serf board. 😂 I live in England and one day it was so windy on the beach it was like a sandstorm, I could hardly breath or see, nobody else is on the beach, I knew I needed to not be there too. Then I see some dude with his wet suit and board all alone on an empty beach in killer conditions sprinting to the sea like a mad man. These surfers are something else.

I’m wondering if the conditions north from Ian might have caused this? Was this only South Beach and was there any flooding on Ocean Drive or other areas?
