I love that your restorations actually RESTORE the item to its original condition and aren't just 40 pounds of bondo covered with paint. Excellent job as always!

Using a bunch of bondo so you can skip the hard work of sanding is definitely a bad thing that some restorers are guilty of, but there are also times when bondo/filler is the right move, and unfortunately a lot of people are under the impression it is always lazy and bad. For example if an antique part is thin, and deeply pitted it would be better to clean/stop further rusting and then use filler to even out the surface rather than sanding the part to oblivion or outright replacing it with new parts and ruining the piece's originality. Bondo is just another tool in your toolbox that under very specific circumstances is the better choice.
You Have nothing if you don't have FREEDOM!!!!!!!
You sound like me . I feel the same about how alot of folks do this work . I've restored over 200 + Knives . So I'm very particular .as to how to do a knife .

This channel really deserves a lot more subscribers! I'm always blown away by these restorations, and this one is no exception. Most people would have tossed that knife in the trash, but you turned it into something beautiful. Keep it up!

Wow, this restoration is honestly so beautiful, the design of that wood cover and the history behind all of the wood swatches is really ingenious! Never stop restoring (or drinking beer!)

The original knife seems to have used brass rods to hold everything together. I guess that would have been a bit easier to peen or press them into place than steel rods.

Watching your videos is the most relaxing moment of my day, we really appreciate the passion you put into making them. Seeing a man shift so effortlessly between metal work and wood work truly amazes me and, as a fellow diyier, I also feel a little bit of envy😅

What an awesome restoration! The woodwork is beautiful, and I especially love the polishing, I lack the patience to get such great results. My other favorite video of yours is of the Kitchenaid blender, that was spectacular, hopefully new viewers with look for it and watch it.

I have a deep suspicion that I would have gone nowhere near considering that pocket knife was repairable had I been asked, and any friend that had offered it would have been in no doubt. Not only have you proved me, and probably everyone else, wrong, you have turned it into a work of art - absolutely beautiful, and thank you for sharing.

Many times I have thrown things away that I now see that with care, attention and skill, they can be completely restored and used over and over again. Many thanks for your amazing work. Great resto, as always. Choice of woods yielded an amazing result. Band saws always freak me out. I usually feel a pang of anxiety when that tool is used. I refuse to get one for my shop. I have a question, why is it that it seems like no one oils rusty parts down in advance when taking these things apart? I always make that my first step when I need to dismantle anything old and rusty.

That’s amazing it’s the same knife! Well done. I’ve been trying to find a cool vintage knife to restore and keep in my pocket but haven’t been able to find anything for a while. Would love to find one and do the same some day.

I think that probably the best part of this restoration is the history of all parts. Given the choice of quality used over new, i’d always go used. I love to hold wood in particular knowing its been held and crafted before. I love old watches for the same reason. Never having had a Swiss army knife, this old gal would be delighted to own this one - or buy any other you restore in the future. Tastefully done.

Outstanding save and restoration, Dr.! Your choices of the old wood were spot on, especially the 400yr old oak (richness of the grain) and overall the scales are beautiful and well fit. Always a treat to see what is possible to restore something so dead with care and attention to details. Thanks for all you bring to those who appreciate precision and integrity of restoration...and a good story! Cheers!

Beautiful as always The part I like the best about watching you is not just your skill with the restorations, but your ability to see the potential in a piece of wood that others would just throw away. I definitely agree with you about the fizz in the beer, just the fact that it didn't produce a good head was enough to tell that.

When I was a child, I was playing with a Swiss knife of my fathers'. I had not handled one before. I had the main blade out, and went to close it, and it was hard to close. It finally flipped closed - directly onto my thumb! I still have the scar now at age 38. I love your channel and work and beer reviews, it is a fun combination and I always look forward to your next video.

Congratulations on reaching 41,300+ subscribers! This proves that the things you do are great to watch, and always highlight your skill with metallurgy, woodworking, and restoral processes. The thing that impressed me the most in this episode was the making of the broken copper plates. You not only produced exact copies out of a copper sheet, but you nickel plated them as well for authenticity, as well as protection! I admire that you chose a multi laminated handle for this knife. This gives the finished knife a distinct personality, and uniqueness. Well done! I hope your subscribers continue to grow as the years pass. NO TO WAR.

Hi! Great work, the wood combo is gorgeous! May I suggest trying a bench pin when you need to file small pieces? It's mostly used in jewelry making but really it's great for any precision work, granting you a place to rest your piece while you file it, for instance. You can even cover it in leather to protect polished pieces 👌 Whatever you choose to do, keep up the good work, I love watching restoration videos and I'll definitely check the video with that blood coloured wood!
