I love when Rick says he knows a ton of people who will buy it if it checks out, then it gets authenticated, and Rick says it might take a while to sell and it's a small market 😂
Mixed feels. Pawn Shops are a rip off that prey on the vulnerable. That said the word is out that you would be lucky to get 50% of the value of anything except verified gold and silver so it's kind of on you if you go there. We will never know the real number but I would guess many people walk into a pawn shop to get money to feed their addiction.
I sometimes think they have a big room in the basement of their pawnshop where all these people are paid to hang out all day and that's how they arrive so quick to check the legitimacy of this stuff. lol
The show is completely fake, sorry to tell you. They don't even film the show in their store. There is a studio at a different location where they film the show.
I was thinking the same thing until I figured out that they pre-staged most of these items and they have a separate standard pawn shop for everybody else
@REURØØ They're not actors. Guy who was in one of the episodes told how it goes down. You send application with the item you want to sell, if they accept it you receive invitation to come it. That's when Rick & co come to the shop for filming. Those people you see in the background are staff members, the shop is closed to the customers at the time. Since they already know about the items people are bringing in during the filming, they have experts on set as well. The rest is real, you don't have a script or anything and you're free to negotiate.
It is only illegal to possess counterfeit money if you know the money is counterfeit and try to use it to defraud another person. Simply posseting a counterfeit is not a crime so long as you did not manufacture the bill. My grandfather and grandmother and aunt are/were bankers and my grandfather collected some bills he came across.
The real question is. If that bill in particular would constitute to be a counterfeit. It's literally missing the face of the bill. Therefore it is different than an original bill by such a significant margin that no one would claim that it is even a bill.
@COVEY1 the money says it’s “prop”; it’s printed on it and it feels like paper than real. I’m no expert, I do RECALL hearing/reading it’s the “distribution” as if were real is the crime; just like other comments are saying….
@Skylar McDaniel most are not “sealed”; they’re mostly like taped bags or screwed together plastic. Coins I hear, have authenticating services that “seals” them but “resealable” if opened(probably has something to tell like a label)
@Nathan Davis on the flip side something as simple as keeping it in your wallet even if you have no other physical currency with it can be considered illegal. best bet with something like this is one of those sealed plastic protectors like they use for trading cards or comics, with some kind of labeling stating it is counterfeit.
True. Being in possession of it is only illegal if it is "with intention to defraud" according to Federal law. That would be especially hard to prove with a bill that obviously had value as a collectable item with all those signatures on it. The law is written that way so if you attempt to use a counterfeit bill that was passed to you and innocently tried to use it you can't be found guilty of a crime without the actual intent to commit fraud.
The missile component. Rick to camera: "I know exactly who will will buy this!" Rick to customer: "I don't know who would buy it, it will just sit here."
I watch for historical and entertainment value; I can even HEAR RICK’S VOICE in those comments…. I DONT KNOW WHY MY HEAD NEVER PUT THOSE TWO OF RICK’S COMMENTS TOGETHER!!!🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
"that dude isnt really known i cant give you 1000" 2 mins later to the cam "eventho he isnt really known there are alot of collectors who wanna buy this" lmao.
I highly doubt its illegal to own this half printed bill when you can buy a stack of movie prop money printed on both sides on Amazon. I bet the guy can sell it to a museum with no issues.
Military dude pretty much just said it's not worthless it's just so rare to even be able to own one he can't put a price on it compared to something else on the market. Rick knew he was going to easily get AT LEAST $3,000 off it.
It is perfectly legal to own or make "couterfit", damaged, mismarked or otherwise alter paper money/bills. It's yours, you own it. Such items can be considered souvenirs. The crime is trying to spend counterfit/altered bills as real money. Once altered however, any bill is no longer legal tender.
I haven't watched all that many Pawn Stars, but has there ever been a time when the expert that came in just outright outbids the item? Or is that, like, against the show contract or something?
I think there was one expert who was tempted to buy one. When a guy brought in a collection of postcards signed by movie stars from the 50s-60s. People like Elvis Presley, Babe Ruth, Vincent price, Marilyn Monroe, James Stewart, and many many more.
My last duty station in '68-69 was an F-8 Squadron, and F-8's carried two Sidewinders, one on each side of the fuselage. I loaded and armed Sidewinder missiles. That heat seeking head is worth way more than $550 to a Military or Air Power collector, probably thousands of dollars.
@Sygmar Vexarion No one would scrap that thing for parts. There is too much value in keeping it whole to just break it down like that, plus those parts are not particularly useful anymore.
I dont know the law, but I really don't think a counterfeit bill from the 1950s would be illegal today, especially being obviously counterfeit and in the condition that it's in. This style is out of print, and wouldn't be exchangeable. There has to be some kind of statute of limitations for things like that.
@jonathan YES THEY CAN BE PASSED. True story: Years ago I worked at a gas station. One of my coworkers was with a customer. The customer wanted $50 in gas. They paid with 1 $10 and 2 $20. The cashier counted the money, approved the transaction, then deposited the money in the drop safe. Later when the manager was going through the cash, it was discover that one of those $20s was a fake, "one-sided" bill. The police officers said that we were the third gas station hit that week. This is why no one should take legal advise from YT comments section.
I used to work retail. We were "required by law" to contact the police if we had a counterfeit bill. If we used a counterfeit to give a customer change, we could be prosecuted. The government takes these very seriuosly. You don't want you're fingerprints on one of those.
@dababy in response to your likely confusion... The word 'still' in the original comment is a noun. He's talking about the moonshine distillery in the video; which is also called a still. And, as per the comment, the Still itself was probably worth more than it went for.
I love when Rick says he knows a ton of people who will buy it if it checks out, then it gets authenticated, and Rick says it might take a while to sell and it's a small market 😂
Haha I work for a moving company and we inventory everything we touch you can only imagine how I felt when the guy wanted me to move 4 us navy torpedos 😂😂a lot of questions were asked and a lot of legal paperwork came into play 😂😂
The heat seeking gadget is 60 years old. I wonder if you can find the blueprints for it on the internet. It's not like it is still high tech or military secrets or anything.
The stamps make complete sense, hospital and pharmacy use drugs of all types requiring these descriptions, sound like another why to afford local school and supplies for the common goods to benefit off the common man/business of the time.
@Rishi Paleja Because I doubt the government cares about one single counterfeit bill that has one half missing, so that anyone can tell it’s not real currency.
By pointing the airplane at enemy airplane :) That's correct for older versions of Aim-9 Sidewinder. Now you can lock the target using your helmet. You can even launch the missile when not facing enemy. Scary times.
It sure would be hard to pass these things up or others but can't lose money on an illegal item. Got to be a hard business sometimes. Amazon car hop trays.
I remember in one controversial episode a guy brings in Nazi silver items raided by his GI Dad from Hitler's house or bunker but Rick says it's illegal as a pawn shop owner to buy anything considered racist, counterfeit, offensive, inappropriate or politically incorrect or any Nazi items. He also mentions it alot in interviews. However, one episode has a banksy Princess Diana Counterfeit note but that was legal as it was considered Pop Art.
If someone just told me the item I had was potentially a felony to own and he says "let me go make a phone call I'll be right back" I would grab my stuff and be outta there so fast everyone in the building's head would spin like a cartoon
Nobody is going to care because it's clearly a collectible item with one side of the bill missing. It's not illegal to own an obvious fake, it's illegal to try and defraud someone with it. It's illegal to possess with INTENT to defraud, but again, one side of the bill is missing and it's clearly being held as a signed souvenir. My suggestion would be to get it appraised and slabbed as a counterfeit and see if the autographs could be authenticated. With a slab clearly marking it as counterfeit, you would be ensuring that there is no intent to use it as valid currency. Like anyone would ever try to use a half marked bill signed by so many historical figures (probably with a cool backstory about a big counterfeit bust) for a measly $10.
Rick is a sleazebag! LOL He criticizes the guy's Secret Service stuff to whittle him down to a rock bottom price then once the guy's gone, he looks at the camera and says, "These Secret Service credentials are AMAZING!"
@Edster X'D well yeah I still wonder how in the world a missile that's supposed to fly and explode cost so much I didn't even know it's price until early today. I thought it was between 20k to 50k, but 600k? wow
“Counterfeit money is illegal to own. Yeah, these guys probably kept it as a souvenir.” Do you see how contradictory that is??? The attorney general can “own” a counterfeit bill as a souvenir, but if the average Joe “owns” one, straight to jail??? It shouldn’t be illegal to just own a counterfeit bill. Now if you’re stupid enough to try and spend it, that’s on you, and THEN you should go to jail.
True wisdom has , It has carved its seven pillars. For “who has come " Jehovah’s mind, or who has become his adviser?” Whoever has accepted his has put his seal to it Has he not Put rulers Of Faith in him ? The lion has Who will be afraid Jehovah has spoken who will? But Jehovah has never forgotten me harvest has passed, the summer has ended We have not been Men will be and Jehovah will be alone in that day people will oppress one , Each one his man. will assault man, And one will the respected one. And Jehovah God built the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman, and he brought her to the man. So the man named all the domestic animals but for man there was no helper as a complement of him. And Jehovah went to the man of dust and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living person. that he had taken from the man in a woman, the man named all there was no complement of him. man said: “This is at last bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh. This one will be called , she was taken.” Jehovah saw that man’s was on every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was all time.
I've been watching this channel for a bit now, and I just realized I have found a Australian 20 cent minted in 1981 with Queen Elizabeth the 2nd on the back and I would like to know if it's worth anything? I did in fact look it up its about 250$ to 4000$ but I can not be really sure?
Pawn Stars is my favorite thing to watch while I smoke weed. I can't tell you how excited I get when I see I have a surplus of Pawn Stars content to feed off of while I smoke my weed. It is an invigorating experience smoking weed while I watch Pawn Stars and I am thankful I get to do so.
@Great Dragon Yeah I don't know about that, "Great Dragon" it sounds like you may be trying to steer me in the direction away from the Lord with that advice. My weed and Pawn Stars will suffice. Amen.
I wish more people would decline the lowball offers given to them. They could list it online and sell the stuff fast and for more than they get offered in the shop.
@Jay Mike Iirc the bearded expert guy never says what price he thinks it’s worth. Other experts do but he doesn’t. Also, I think Rick was excited by the items and woulda paid more
@Moolers If their original asking-price was more reasonable, they'd have the confidence to keep negotiating. But when they highball and get embarrassed by the expert, they're quicker to just agree.
@Jay Mike I wasn't talking about their original price, but after Rick starts negotiating. If they say 1000, he says 400, they will just go slightly above that instead of saying 900.
Ah yes. I will buy this rare military heat seeking end of a missile for 500 bucks, the one in front of me that museums, and collectors would love to have. I'd just smack the guy and leave.
I don't understand the drama about the counterfeit $10 bill. It's obviously not a counterfeit bill attempting to be usable $10 bill? It's only printed on one side with "random" signatures on the other side. With those standards I'm sure I have an old pretend money with the Disney character autographs on it. ?? The only thing that I could think of is if its a fake antique/collectable. Fake signatures or what not. But a fake bill trying to pass as a real bill seems off to me.
Is Corey the owner? Sounds like he seems to make the big calls these days but idk. Don’t watch the show too often so I don’t know all the employee dynamics
Well there's more than $500 in copper on that still, making shine is easy, you can do it on your stove with a pressure cooker,to make your mash it 1 gallon of clean spring water per 50 lbs of corn and 5 lbs of sugar per 50 lbs of corn,go to a grocery store and buy bakers yeast 5 packets per 50 lbs of corn mix everything together in a sterile ice chest or drum let set a week or two until its fermented take a strainer drain the liquid from your mash, then attach about 4' of coiled 1/8" copper tube through a 5 gallon bucket filled with dry ice or regular ice leave about 16" of tube out the bucket place a milk jug with cotton at the top under it the condensation that forms is 160 proof or high liquor, throw the first jug away that pure poison you can safely drink the second batch but a good shiner will ground drop the first 3 gallons for purity
It's not illegal to own a counterfeit bill that's only printed on one side, at least to my knowledge it has to be at least representative of legal tender to be illegal. No one could possibly mistake a bill printed on only one side to be legal tender.
It is not a federal crime to merely possess counterfeit money. You must, of course, have knowledge that the money is counterfeit, but also you must possess it with "intent to defraud another". I couldn't speak to the different laws of every state, but all the state laws I am aware of also require the intent to defraud. I seriously doubt that bill with a blank back and a bunch of signatures would have caused any legal problems.
Great show. Don't know why it is so addictive, probably cos of the random nature of the people and the items that turn up in a pawn shop. Hands up if you watch the sellers accept a price and think "I would have got more sucker." 😁
There are so many people owning odd items. Interesting, but odd the things they dig up in your attic or basement. That heat seeking missile in worth more. She should have held out for more or ask that military guy what he would be willing to pay for it.
If the bill doesn't say it's legal tender is it actually counterfeit? It may of came from counterfeiters but it isn't a finished product or claim to be legal tender
I found it hilarious how he told the dude it’s not collectable enough to be worth more than a couple hundred then he tells the camera guy how great of a buy it was because it’s so collectable
