Boy, they sure take some getting used to, though, especially when traffic is really moving! I live, and learned to drive, in a city without roundabouts. When I went on assignment to a city where they were commonplace, and that had monstrous traffic, I was terrified when I would find myself in one with four fast-moving lanes of traffic at rush hour. In the last ~20 years, at least 5 traffic circles in my immediate area in South Jersey have been replaced by traffic lights. The problem was never with the circles themselves, but that there were no LAWS regarding traffic flow (e.g., traffic on the inside/left lane of the circle continues without stopping/yielding and traffic on the outside/right lane of the circle is for those exiting or entering the circle). Since their replacement with VERY long delays at traffic lights, there have been countless road rage incidents. During rush hour at one particular former circle, it usually takes 3 changes of lights to proceed; in prior years, there was only a minor delay as everyone proceeded cautiously around.

Health care workers have long working hours and conditions that are very stressful, as well they truly are not getting a fair hourly rate along with insufficient benefits for what they are exposed to. Now that being said I feel very strongly about them striking. That could very well have a serious impact on some patients who depend solely and completely on the medical staff. I don't know if this is a work to rule strike or a total strike with every worker not working. hopefully for mainly the patients it comes to a quick resolution.

I was a property manager and applicants had to fall in a credt and debit percentage/ratio. A credit check was part of the process and I never included anyone's school loans. I don't believe any rental agency or mortgage companies should hold school loans against the applicants.
@AbsentWithoutLeaving 2 meses atrás
I think the purpose of the calculation is to determine whether a mortgage applicant could support the extra debt without collapsing under it all and defaulting. And student loans are legit debt - it's money they contracted to repay. And while I don't support the usurious interest rates on those loans AT ALL, I can't understand why the former students think they should be absolved of repaying the principal! I'd have to say that in itself constitutes enough evidence to find it likely that they would renege on any debt at all. If I borrow money from you, do you just assume it's a gift to me, or do you expect to get it back?

Roundabouts are great replacements for those four way stops, except when you are going against rush hour traffic, because then there is no gap for you to merge, at least with those single lane roundabouts. Two lane roundabouts require divided medians, otherwise people just drive straight, occupying both lanes. And then of course, there’s the people who stop at them when no one is coming, merge, then stop at every single cross street because… …I dunno.

There's always that one person that never knows to do without being told and needs a stoplight/sign to tell them, yes, but roundabouts are awesome, especially in places that have used them for so long they actually know how to use them. If everyone would just take the right-of-way that's theirs, only the curves would slow us down. LOL
@mosquitobight 2 meses atrás
Roundabouts are safer because every turn is a right turn, so you're never cutting across oncoming traffic. Obviously they're not appropriate for every intersection, but in America they're definitely underused.
@UmmYeahOk 2 meses atrás
@@NotTheExI disagree. Where I see these added are not the traffic signal intersections the news discusses. They tend to be at four way stops, where people clearly are being told to STOP, and only go when it’s your turn. While I have witnessed utter failure at roundabouts, I remember incredibly more failures back when they were stop signs. It wasn’t that people weren’t stopping at them. It was that they were stopping, and then just going regardless of whose turn it was. Roundabouts forced everyone who approaches to yield, while four way stops only require you to stop, as the sign says. Who cares about anyone else, so long as you stopped. My favorite were the ones who stopped before you, but like 4 car lengths from the actual sign, so while you were the first to get to the sign, and stop at it. You both take your foot off the brake and go. Whose turn was it? That’s why it blows my mind when people do stop at these, and even wait, even though no one is coming. They’re treating them like the four way stops from years past, only, you can’t treat them the same, because you can’t even tell if there’s someone on the other side, because they’ve put up this decorative blind spot. So no idea who they think they’re taking turns with.

Best Roundabout that I've used has an "exit" for traffic that would ordinarily just be making a Right turn. That significantly drops the # of vehicles entering the Roundabout.

Sorry Kevin. One good decision on your part doesn’t Trump (pun intended) the hundreds of bad ones you’ve made.

While I do think that pulling a fire alarm warrants punishment I don't think it deserves being fired over. I suggest a 90 day censure and a $25,000 fine and one year of misdemeanor probation. If he was an ordinary man I would go lower with the fine but due to the stature of his office I think the fine of that size is appropriate. Oh and make him stand in front of congress and offer a full, live broadcast formal apology.

He’s an elected official. He can’t just be fired either way.
No one else has had to do that.

I love round-abouts , they are way better than the lights in New England. 😅

They’re just better. People who don’t like them just need some time to get used to them.

Thank you Congress for not being irresponsible representation of the people momentarily. I so didn't mean that in a good way. If Congress knew real life.
I applaud speaker Mccarthy and the democratic caucus for at least getting a little done.

“I was trying to get to a door. I thought the alarm would open the door, and I pulled the fire alarm to open the door by accident.” ????????? Oh you know that's a lie.

Diverging Diamond Interchanges (or DDI's) are also on the rise. Personally I don't like roundabouts, but they do provide a better traffic flow.

"1978" was before the former Governor of California was elected Prez and changed things, after he had changed California. That state used to have free tuition for residents. It ALSO was the state where Hewlett-Packard , Apple, Intel, National Semiconductor... (the list is impressive) got their start. Today it's different there. It's different in the rest of the USA now as well.

Once you get trapped on the roundabout, with one assurance comes together that that will drive you crazy. Especially many cars at a time rush into the same circle lane trying to figure out when and how to get out of there swerving cars entangled all together.

It's called right-of-way. Take it. Do that and roundabouts become what you want everywhere in place of stoplights.
