Wow! he attracts young people to his concerts. Almost every person that ran up to hug him was very young. GOOD FOR HIM AND OUR MUSIC THAT ATTRACTS A WHOLE DIFFERENT GENERATION
Yes! I was in the pit during this performance in this video. I helped push up one of the last young boys. He was very excited 😄 ( time stamp 3:15 is the boy I helped push up)
Realmente si... Estás en lo cierto. Recuerdo cuando The Smiths la publicó, no entendía nada yo, ahora, casi 40 años después me doy cuenta porque no entendía!!! El está adelantado en el tiempo!!!!!
I've been a Morrissey fan since I was 14. He has continually been unapologetic while making some of the most iconic music in musical history. He is the real deal and we will never see anything to match him. He speaks for the lost boys...
@Lola Bloodflowers do you understand how many times he plays this song? have you ever played a song thousands of times? it'll drive you absolutely insane. not to mention one of the fundamental aspects of being a musician is improvisation and variations.
this frequently happens with concerts. you don't learn about it till you go to one or you dig really deep into the comments and experiences of people who do. it's especially common with jam bands like phish and grateful Dead. there's little rituals and traditions for almost every song. but you can guarantee that nearly every band that's been around as long as the Smiths or even really half that long is going to have say a song where it's common for people to run up and hug him. you can kind of tell us what's happening because of the security being all ready on this song. I don't know if this is based on the song itself or maybe this is the last song he played in a set but something happened in the minds of people who are familiar with this particular concert scene that this is the time to run up and do that.
Love it!!!! The fans love him, but also respect him… a quick hug and they bow out…. No one goes overboard. That’s a beautiful thing and thanks to Morrissey for engaging w audience that way -
@Mizzanda As a security guard myself, this would be tricky to do because Morissey loves when his fans come up but the security here did a perfect job I think. Not too rough but moved the fan(s) out of way not to impede the show
This straight up gave me chills man, with no hesitation or refusal at all he just lets them all show their respect towards him. Morrissey is a living legend.
@Sean Keyes basically being a Mancunian makes you Irish by proxy, especially if you're Catholic....I had so many friends with Irish blood, in school around 95% had Irish names....Sheridan, O'Dea, Harrison, Murphy, O',Toole, Sweeney, Harkin, Mulrooney, Mc Clusker, etc...
@David his parents are both from Ireland which means he will be taught the culture of the Irish just like say if anyone came from India and had a child in a foreign country they will bring that culture with them.
@Emma Mcmillan both of his parents are Irish, being born in a stable doesn't make you a horse. Although he was born in England, he has the Irish blood within him.
@R. Okay, man - if that’s your perception. While that is partly true, there’s definitely a possibility it’s being done disingenuously. And then, it could definitely go awry.
@glenn oc . Yes. Pretty much. Thank you for articulating what I was trying to say, in a less psychological, verbose and overall tedious way. I have trouble with not doing that sometimes. Audience members are likely emulating the most popular way by what they’ve seen in probably many decades’ past. Obviously, this is applicable to a myriad of other bands in music too.
@ADT2695 I think as moz has reached the age of mid 60s it going to be hard to look cool with young fans rushing you onstage. It's almost perverse to what Moz would see as cool.
@ADT2695 I agree. This is not a young Moz being alluring to a young fan. I believe it's a case of Moz continuing the act of adoration by selecting and enticing fans on stage at predetermined moments. You can see it unfold on cue with the stage security at the ready. Very different to the random stage vaulters and hugs from the early days. Even back then you got a feeling if the fans looking for a "hey look at me" moment.
@Sugarcuba He supported them for their vegan and anti-halal meat stance. They wanted to ban halal meat from Britain because the founder of FB is vegan and against halal meat.
@Erik Salinas what are you on about? He has said numerous things that are clearly problematic and right wing over the years. You can still be a fan and acknowledge this. Wake up.
Morrissey is like a modern day Elvis to me. No other artist has the effect he has on adoring fans just wanting to hug him etc. He’s the last of the great rockstars (he also hate that line lol)
@Jeff Bruce I did grow up in the 80s yes, you're right. What I mean is I've not seen any other artist have fans jumping on stage at any moment they get chance just to touch Morrissey. I'm not saying he IS Elvis but he has that affect on his fans.
Watching Morrissey live was the closest thing I’ve had to a religious experience from a stage show. The man has a wonderful voice and presence and is surprisingly humble. Viva Mozza!
It’s always fascinating to watch clips from his shows and the incredible interaction with the audience. It’s almost a religious experience for most of them.
Deffo was for me. It just isn't like any other artist I've seen. Because nobody else's music has meant so much to me. I'm so grateful he's so appreciative of fans.
He is like a father to these people, a chance to embrace the man who has inspired them. Music and musicians like him can be so profound to people lives. Morriesey is real and hits a nerve with people.
I see so many people who identify with this song, just as I did when I was younger. Morrissey may have his problems, but from my point of view, he's genius.
It’s apparently a traditional thing to do, and he’s seemingly always allowed it to occur - however, it is clearly excessive and half the people aren’t doing it genuinely.
I love Morrissey, too. Got a chance to meet him and shake his hand and get a small hug in a bar called Zen Sushi in Silver Lake once back in 2001. It was mod night and the DJ was playing everything from the Kinks to Elvis Costello. I saw someone who resembled Morrissey walking through the crowd and when he got close I was surprised and said “you’re Morrissey!” and he said “I know” haha
This dude is so......huge you forget theres a band playing behind him,This dude could go on stage with back up tracks no band just music, His fans love him..😅
I've been a fan of rock for decades and I must say Morrissey has one of the most loyal fan bases in the whole industry. I am kind of rare in the sense that I found Morrissey's solo stuff before his stuff from The Smiths. So I listened to all of his solo stuff first and then went back and listened to The Smiths. Great music. On another note, Morrissey always has the best musicians behind him. He gets the best band behind him. He has an ear for talent.
I'm not the biggest fan, but mad respect for this guy. Been doing it for 40 years and kept his integrity. Song is one of the best of the 80's for sure.
i love everytime seeing his concerts, he is full of loves from everybody. even if im as an audience, i will be like those all. and indeed hes humble so damn much. i love you deeply moz!
Morrissey says things that us men feel, and wish we could say, but either can't articulate, or that fear of ridicule and shame prevent us from saying out loud.
Well, yeah, You could say that, but also its better to see kids learnd from theirs folks what is the good music, also probably those parents are on the same place enjoyin in his songs,. I mean, ok, i m subjective, but in this age have no desire to go hug somebody during the gig also dont see something wrong if my kid go up to see and cheer Morrisey,. 😎✌️
Some of us grew up with The Smiths and Morrissey. You couldn't get tickets and now he plays Vegas. Now the true fans have access. The hard core fans are finally getting their moment. For Morrisey and these fans the time is ticking. Time to come together.
Damn! He’s still got it just like old times! Seen them many times back in the day! Just saw them again this year at the Cruel World Festival! Best fest so far this YEAR!
I saw the July 1st show, we only had 2 people bum rushed Morrissey during the last song before the encore…the only part that sucked was he sang just one song for the encore 😢…regardless, it was an AWESOME SHOW!! He still sounds amazing …like he did 30 years ago ❤️
I figured this is regular occurrence Very uplifting I’ve always loved this song I busk using a looper and play an incorrect but recognizable version of this song and people of all ages have thanked me for covering it . 😊
Gawd do I feel old..takes me back 40 years to a packed Mountford Hall, Liverpool University..he’s minus the huge bunch of flowers in his back pocket but still owns the stage ..brilliant tune that stands thr test of time..love it thanks for posting .ll
When I first hear this track, pre internet days, i didn't know what it was called...and i kept on looking at different CDs hoping to find this tune. It was much much later i hear it on the radio where the host mentioned "this is 1of that unique track where the title of the song is never mentioned anywhere in the lyrics...!" Donno how many countless sleepless night I spent like many of u listening to this track to go to sleep... an amazing tune that puts u in a hypnotic state of mind that u simply can't get out of... The fans crawling on the stage and how Morrissey is embracing them is just a proof how cool of a musician he remains after 4 decades!!!
