The new 1.20 snapshot completely overhauls the smithing table and turns it into an armor modification station to apply cosmetic trim.

This is why i have been playing RL Craft lately. The game needs a BIG weapon update in where you can craft rapiers/Greatswords with additional effects such as absorbing damage, giving lifesteal or poison/bleed damage and different bows.

@Gyarik yea, but dont copare mods to oficial updates, mods only need to work on 1 version, this will need to work on both java and bedrock, plus future versions, and future mods as well.
King Nedya
King Nedya 7 meses atrás
@Ricardo Rocha Exactly. I always hate when people compare official updates to mods. Like actual old Minecraft mod developers who now work on official Minecraft updates as Mojang employees have said themselves that developing a mod and developing an update are two completely different things and should not be compared.

Gyarik
Gyarik 7 meses atrás
@King Nedya idk if you have any idea on what goes through in Software Engineering, but if that's all they can muster up in over a year of development cycle(s) then i'm sorry to say they've been doing a bad, or rather, poorly organized job, specially in terms of quality. I'm comparing it to mods because in comparison modders (generally) have no real sense of design and implementation patterns, yet i've seen so much better content coming out of them.

Worth pointing out that the Rib trim (the one that Jordan points out doesn't "pop" as much as he thought diamond would) actually makes the trim darker! All other materials used will have a darker tone when used with this smithing template. Quartz works amazingly well with the Rib trim for a skeletal armour type look :)

That and ender pearls for that dark blueish green color that we all know and love Blaze rods/powder would also look pretty cool for a more molten look, and I feel like glowstone was an obvious choice that they forgot to implement (since it too is a mineral/gem). Chain would be a really cool trim, since it could make it look like you’re wearing a layer of chainmail beneath your armor.

You actually can put a netherite trim on netherite armor, and it looks slightly different to regular netherite armor. You do it by applying the trim to a piece of diamond armor and then upgrading the diamond armor to netherite.

I agree, it would be really nice if the trims had minor status effects that corresponded to their location. It would also be awesome if the smithing table could be used to bring weaker armor and tools closer to the standard of neatherite at an appropriate cost of course. There should also be an option to remove the shimmer from enchantments entirely because the armor sets look really clean without it. I hope they do a lot more with letting players choose what armor they want to wear because they’ve definitely just opened that door.
TheJjcczz
TheJjcczz 7 meses atrás
That would be the bare minimum considering they just jacked up the price of full netherite armour from 24 diamonds to 45 for no reason. It’s literally going to cost 82 diamonds for full netherite armour and all 3 tools plus a sword. That doesn’t include the trim by the way which you would need to dupe 4 times for an additional 28 diamonds Or you could rely on RNG and just hope you get lucky and find the 8 netherite upgrades and 4 trims you need to avoid paying the duplication cost

I think there should be an ability to "coat" armor as well, coating works like dyeing leather, in that you coat your armor in a different material like you can do here with trims to change its color (corresponding to the armors color, so netherite armor thats coated would appear darker than expected due to netherite being a darker material)

Wow insane that Minecraft is still receiving fairly big updates this much later after it's release, one game that really never did any wrong by anyone, always been good. Think about Skyrim, 11th november 2011 release and still a big thing, especially in the modding community. But yeah Minecraft is also a interesting phenomenon with that. :D I'm playing it personally most of the time with mods as well since I consider Vanilla MC more of the boring things, especially when it comes to automations and big chunk clearing 😂 I'd like to autofarm any resources (Diamonds are not real possible in vanilla yet, even tho they are pretty useless in vanilla terms beside getting your armor and tools, now they are needed at least for some armor decoration improvements which is good for me) and there are many mods to help you cleaning out big areas in nearly no time compared to doing it on your own beside a Haste2 Beacon for example ^^

Perhaps you could modify the armour eventually. Into the Medium Armour (what we have) then like a Heavy and Light ones. Heavy gives more hearts perhaps and light gives a little bit more movespeed or something? Or it could just be cosmetic, that'd be neat too.

Would be sick if the different armor templates gave the players buffs for having an entire set, like the full wild armor set would give you a haste buff like what a beacon does, but passively, the tide gives you water breathing, etc. Just because there doesn't seem to be a purpose for all of this apart from being purely cosmetic; I think it'd make it a lot more fun to give me a reason to actually get different sets with different upgrade patterns.

I feel like this could be a use for growth in the actual game, more armor options could open up options for buffs, certain armors being better than others, enchantments being better compatible with certain armors, set bonuses, a ton of interesting things. Then could grow the game from there, add more content, more enemies, places to go, things to do.

each type of the template if you have the full set of that specific template gives buffs too but instead of protection or bonus damage or anything like that some give extra hearts or a weak regeneration or if a mob hits you it might push everything away from you or even stuff like gives an extra level to certain enchantments like imagine unbreaking 4. i also feel like would be good to add to the smithing table is chestplate elytra but make it super expensive so it takes longer to achieve and get rid of the duping system so people are more prone to explore and its like a final upgrade to your armor and weapons. if they do this right it could be the biggest update in gear sinse netherite

I was hoping they would do something with chainmail armor to make it useful. Something like this but adding extra buffs or protection or something. Maybe even enchanting chainmail and forging it together in an anvil can add a different level of Protection. So enchanting fire protection to chainmail then combining it with regular Protection armour would give both Fire Protection and regular Protection. The only issue I have with it is this is a lot of work and materials just for a change in aesthetic. Maybe adding slight buffs based on the template would be cool.

I'm excited for this, but also worried it's going to make netherrite even more grindy than it currently is. HOWEVER, this is a step in the right direction

Actually the diamonds look a lot more "diamondy" if you use other patterns. That specific one just makes it rly dark for some reason.

perhaps they wanted to make the fortress trim look worn and battle-torn

if you use the rib pattern with quartz on netherite, the helmet looks like a wither skull. that was probably the direction they were going for.

I mean this is pretty cool. I would like, ideally, for this system to become close in function to Tinkers or Tetra. The upgrades and accents look nice but I want to feel like I'm fine-tuning my armor for function, not just making it look pretty.

Honestly, that is pretty cool to me. I kind of hope they add something similar to tools/weapons.

It would be cool if certain armor trims offered small additions like you’ll be mining one minute and all of a sudden you get a small burst of haste.

I think it’s awesome that you get the different designs from all over the place so you really have to adventure everywhere to collect them all

I hope they add weapon trims because I've always wanted to make my sword look bloody and I could do just that with the trim and some redstone
polska joseon countryball
Love it, but they need to add something to trigger the normal smithing table stuff

I like that you need to get templates to upgrade to netherite, but I feel it’s a bit much that you need one per item. I get that they want us to mine more but 48 diamonds is a bit much, especially if you don’t trade for the armour.

This is really cool, bet they're gonna love this for tournaments and team based stuff on servers

a side note after testing the snapshot, netherite used on netherite isnt actually too bad, sure there are way better trim colors but honestly its not too bad

7:16 You can apply netherite patterns to netherite armor if you apply the netherite trim pattern on the diamond armor before upgrading it. A lot of them have very subtle variations you wouldn't notice, but the vex pattern makes the netherite chestplate look like it just survived an explosion.

lol, that's probably going to be labeled a bug

@A guy on the internet Probably, but I hope it keeps since it can be a secret way to make broken netherite or netherite with a face in the chestplate (ward pattern)

@Iskraft If you want it to be secret you probably shouldn't post it all on the internet.

is it just for customization or you get increased stats from it?

They basically added Philza‘s netherite armor and tools texture as a feature with more customizations, I love it and this also gives diamonds more uses since it had fallen off since netherites introduction

I've heard complaints about how netherite shouldn't cost so much more diamond, but I think it is a good choice because it lets the netherite upgrade feel like an actual upgrade. Normally people spend very little time in diamond gear and usually jump to netherite as soon as they can. After getting diamond gear, we now have a reason to keep mining diamonds.

I think the choice to make Netherite slightly more difficult to get was a good call. I felt as if it was a little too easy before.

Oh dang...This was my main selling point on Leather armor (the fact that you can customize the colors), but this changes EVERYTHING! Genuinely thought this was a mod at first lol. Actually hyped for this.

I'm not usually one for cosmetics, but this looks really cool. It also finally gives more function to the Smithing Table, more use for diamonds, and just looks cool

Horse armor customization would be a nice addition as well. As one of those people that actually made the bedrock super horse I would greatly appreciate giving him the drop he deserves

i'm curious what they'll look like when they're enchanted. the purple glow might make it more obscure to notice the trims but an easy fix that comes to mind would be customizable color glows

In the same update, they reduced the enchantment glow just for this very reason.

for a long time now I've been using a mod to make armor invisible simply because I prefer looking at my skin rather than the same armor for the 2000th time but now I'll definitely have to take off that mod, these are so sick
