Mathews Vertix Hunting Bow Review

I've been shooting the Mathews Vertix for nearly a year now as part of ArcheryTalk's 2019 Hunting Bow Project.
This bow has an axle-to-axle length of 30 inches, brace height of six inches, and IBO rated speed of 343 feet per second.
Mathews' CrossCentric cams have long been a favorite and they produce a draw cycle that is very smooth right into the wall. However, the Vertix draw feels a bit stiffer to me compared to the Triax I tested last year, with a little less valley.
When it comes to fit and finish, the Vertix does not disappoint. The Stone color is my favorite that Mathews offers and it is pretty much flawless. I had some issues with some riser imperfections on the Triax last year, but there are no such problems this time around.

How’s the TAP stabilizer?

It works exactly as I’d hope a good stabilizer should. No complaints, though I maybe could have gone with a slightly longer one.

I’d love to, but Elite has never loaned us a bow. I’ll keep asking, though

I'm happy to try anything. That company (Option Archery) makes some interesting stuff. Love the look of the Option sight.

So you think the TAP string stop is better than the one that comes stock on the Vertix?

Thanks for the reply. I had one of their original stabs but sold it with an old bow. I have a Halon 32 now. I may have to pick one up. Thanks again 🤙🏼

TAP sent some over and I was experimenting. Difference is small, but I feel like it softens the already quiet bow just a bit.

I absolutely love my Vertix but I had similar peep rotation issues with the Zebra strings. I switched to a set of GAS strings and they’ve been absolutely phenomenal. After about 100 shots I made slight peep and timing adjustments and they haven’t moved since.

Same here bud, shot the Zebra junk off in 3 months the string fell apart, I also got the GAS strings, best quality strings out hands down!

In honest opinion which bow did you enjoy shooting more, the vertix or ct3? Both bows seem amazing with different features but which one would you prefer

ArcheryTalk thanks for the response. I bought the ct3 and have really enjoyed shooting it. Thanks for the great videos

Personally, I prefer the Vertix. I shoot it more consistently than I've ever shot a compact hunting bow - maybe as well as I've shot any hunting bow. I'd put it with the Centergy Hybrid and Carbon Defiant on my short list of favorites. However...the valley is on the short side, which is not for everybody. The nice thing about the CT3 is you can adjust the draw stops and make the valley feel any way you like and the draw cycle is really nice. Plus, Prime's fit and finish on the Logic series takes a back seat to nobody.

Mathews really did a great job this year I myself got the traverse but you can't go wrong with either but agree with the peep rotation

Mathews strings are really hit and miss. I went with the Traverse as well but I got rid of the stock strings before the first shot.
Nate's Archery Experience
Not crazy about the arrow rest feature because of torque tuning. Plus in one of the shops I go to, a gentleman traded his rx-3 in and bought a vertix his draw length was different and the dozen airstrikes he bought was a 1/4 short. So he had to buy a dozen more and they aren't cheap.

@Nate's Archery Experience I have no doubt it's a valuable tool. I just haven't given it a chance yet. One day I'll dig in on one of the bows and see what it can do for me.
Nate's Archery Experience
@ArcheryTalk he tried that and did some tweaking on the string and cables but it just didn't feel right to him. But not everyone torque tunes. I do because when I'm in a stressful situation like comps and hunting I tend to have tention in my bow hand. There's people that believe and there are people that don't believe in torque tune and I've seen it work with me.

I've been really happy with the Integrate rest, but I've never done much torque tuning. It's a bummer about his arrows being too short. That's an expensive problem, but Mathews bows tend to run a half-inch long. He can always opt for a shorter module and keep his original arrows.
