I am now realizing after years how Joffrey's death has some kind of poetic justice connected to this scene since he meant to kill a man by choking him with wine. On his birthday. Which meant bad luck

@randomshittutorials Of course, it is possible. But Weiss and Benioff used to do this all the time, using some hints both textual and visual in any situation in which it was possible to recall previous passages from the screenplay. At least they did this until they used Martin's books as a source.

You might be overthinking here.

@Obi-wan Kenobi THIS. For all of season 7 and 8 and a good chunk of 6 everyone was wearing black. People joke about how dark everything was (exposure wise) in season 8, but all the characters looked more or less monochrome even in good lighting.

Sansa outsmarted him here and he even didn't realise it. The Hound betrayed him here and he didn't even realise it. Tyrion ashamed him and he realised it but was too afraid of the dwarf to say anything.

People say Sansa's stupid but in this scene alone she manipulates Jeoffrey into not killing Ser Dontos. Twice. The fact she picked up on Jeoffrey equating Mercy with a quick, clean death shows how far she'd come from just the end of Season 1.

Yes she was being careful with her words. And you could tell when Tyrion expresses his sympathy for the lost of her father & being separated from her family she wanted to say thank you but she knew that Jeffery would punish her if she showed sympathy or grief toward her family so she acted content to be away from them.
Sam

@Mr October She didn’t forget, that’s why she said it in this scene. She learned what Joffreys version of mercy was. Also she was a child. She had literally no way of knowing the consequences of her actions. She thought she could stay if she asked the queen, whom she was close with and trusted up until that point. You’re literally blaming a child for getting manipulated. And also this is the show not the book.
Sam

@Alexander DS I mean she gets him to do what she wants both by coming up with a quick lie and also flattering him and twisting his own beliefs around on himself. Pretty much the definition of manipulation.

Tyrion: "My lady, I'm sorry for your loss." Joffrey: "Her loss? Her father was a confessed traitor." Tyrion: "But still her father. Surely having recently lost your own father you can sympathize." THIS is why people fell in love with Tyrion! He can stand up against any asshole and speak his mind without fear.

@MondoManDevout To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to be sophisticated. The sophistication is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the sophistication will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also MondoManDevout's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these lines, to realise that they're not just sophisticated- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike sophistication truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the sophistication in MondoManDevout's existential catchphrase "Eh, if you think that is an impressive line you are not very sophisticated," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as MondoManDevout's genius wit unfolds itself on their comment sections. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

According to the backstory Ser Dontos was the last of House Hollard. The Hollards stood with House Darklyn of Duskendale in a failed attempt to kidnap and ransom King Aerys II Targaryen. When Barriston Selmy rescued Aerys ending the Defiance of Duskendale Aerys had the entirety of House Darklyn killed as well as all of House Hollard, every man, woman, and child. Only young Dontos survived, spared at the request of Ser Barriston to serve as Ser Barristons squire. Sadly Ser Dontos was never a particularly good knight, and even more sadly the whole incident tipped Aerys fully down the path of paranoia and madness

She knows when to play along. Joffrey, Cersei, Janos, Littlefinger... they are traitors and the greatest part about that is that orders to imprison and execute Eddard, who was still Hand of The King, came out of people who had no such authority. By Robert's will, Joffrey was not a king yet and since Robert passed away, Cersei was and is still not and will never again be the Queen.

I love Tyrion's character here. He clearly sympathizes with Sansa. He knows she's bullshitting and it's to stay alive. I'm sure if it was within his power he would have her set free so she can go home. There's a lot of those moments of characters in the early seasons who want to help others but are clearly unable to do so and so they must do things against their nature. Like Tyrion having to turn his back on Sansa's abuse. That's the sign of a great drama. Appeals to the audience's emotion by teasing something that could potentially happen a la Tyrion rescuing Sansa, but giving them the gritty reality instead of the circumstances.

+lizbennetgenova There's really no way Joffrey could know it as a lie, he couldn't expect to know every saying or superstition the world over and that this one didn't exist. And yes, The Hound surely lied to back her up, it's doubtful Sansa just happened to stumble on an actual superstition, and one that The Hound also knew about.

In the books Sansa makes up the superstition and the hound supports her. And when the Joffrey had the Kingsguard beat Sansa the hound would never do it.

03:22 That’s what uncle’s love towards niece should be! How caring Tyrion looks. (Sorry, just rewatching it after the house of the dragon 😂 and just that in the GOT universe there are adequate relatives besides Starks😅)

The real question is How did this dude become a knight??!!

I just realized, the crown is too small to fit properly on Joffrey's head. Literally, the crown doesn't suit him. That's clever symbolism
Life is actually very boring.
I wish they included his armor more with the dog helmet

"Kingsgaurd". Bronn was right. Sir Merrin is no knight, much less a man worthy of protecting the king. Well maybe worthy of protecting Joffery.
