Actor, Jamie Foxx received the Spotlight Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival 2020 for his portrayal of real-life incarcerated Walter "Johnny D." McMillian, a black man sentenced to death row for a crime he did not commit in Warner Bros. Pictures' JUST MERCY. Accepting the award, the actor had to fight back tears during an emotional speech as he spoke about his own father's time spent behind bars and the lessons Foxx learned from him as a young boy. "Because of him teaching me not have limits, here I am in this room with all of you," Foxx said. Paying homage to attorney Bryan Stevenson, who presented him with the trophy, Foxx said: "Bryan Stevenson should be a household name, a man who dedicated his life to exonerating people off death row."
