As a Spanish speaker, I can’t really understand Esperanto without having to have studied it. I can definitely understand interlingua about 90% and that’s just by hearing it. I’ve seen French Italian in Portuguese. Agree that they can also understand interlingual. This language can actually unite our romance languages.

@Martínez Hernández Michell Alexis I'm a Chinese and I've learnt some Russian, and also watching some linguistic videos, having some mere understandings on other slavic languages. I can understand like 40% I think. I guess I can understand more if I learn more into Russian or even start to learn another Slavic language. I'm now learning ten languages (including my mother tongue) and I am aiming to be able to at least do some basic communications in the major languages on the world. Estoy aprendiendo español también. El español no es especialmente difícil en mi opinión. Es la idioma cuarta que yo sé, después de chino (cantonés y putonghua), inglés y coreano. (I hope you can understand what am I saying with my mistakes maken lol, no puedo decir que mi español es bien, pero creo que es más o menos ok)

Native Bulgarian here, I was also able to understand +90% of the inter-Slavic language. However, I think that the average Bulgarian could understand a bit more than our fellow countryman here, but since he lives in London I presume that he had lost some practice, which is understandable. P.S. The most difficult Slavic language for me as a Bulgarian is definitely Polish!

As a Czech capable of speaking a few other Western Slavic languages fluently I understood all of it. A very funny mix indeed, like old Panslavic vocabulary with basic grammar without any hard geographical accent. Accent and pronunciation wise - I would say this was quite close to some older Moravian/Slovakian border accents. The melody sounded quite Southern Slavic. As a kid, I possibly thought that's what Yugoslavian sounded like :) Yes, I was born in the 80s... I was also going to mention the poor Bulgarian guy. He clearly struggled at time. Their language is so distinctive it makes it the hardest Slavic language to understand for me.

Not really, more like "You can use this language to talk to half of europe and they will more or less understand you, despite not knowing it themselves". This language isn't an alternative to english, it isn't meant to be universally known. It is meant to be more or less understandable by people, who don't know it, but know some slavic language.

@MIKI you can learn it online, one Google search gives plenty websites, although it's not a popular language, it doesnt need to be as for a working conversation between slavic people only 1 of 2 need to know it I think all it needs is to appear on apps like duolingo for it to really become useful

Najlepiej by każdy znał angielski.

As a Bulgarian I could always understand more or less what is being said when it comes to Balkan/Eastern Europe languages. It's because all these languages have one origin, which is so fascinating. I've always been frustrated, that with so many similarities like language, religion, traditions that are supposed to bring us closer and unite us, we've been separated and constantly in conflict. It makes me truly sad. But videos like this one make me believe that one day we can overcome that, unite and be stronger than ever together.

Actually this language has a little bad side. I can barely understand this language when written in latin, but i have no problem when it's written in cyrillic. This occurs mostly because modified latin uses some symbols i don't really understand. That means you'd have to write down something in two variations for people to understand it without a problem. But when it comes to actually hearing someone, who speaks interslavic, there's completely no problem

I am Swedish with a Slovenian mother and I understood almost everything 😊 Never heard of this language before, but my father spoke Esperanto which had a similar idea of creating a new language, easy to learn and “neutral”. I enjoy your channel a lot, watching both the germanic, latin and slavic languages. Keep the content coming!

As a Belgian having been in BG, HR, SR, CZ, RU I learned a little bit of everything but not completely? I understand about 80% of your exercise. Amazing it looks of a kind of slavonic Esperanto. And it is approximately the way I would be able to express myself to get me understood in your countries.

As a Bulgarian, I understood near to almost everything. And in the places I didn't understand, he would give a synonym or cognate (eg trbuh) which I would understand. A weird thing I've noticed, is that if I listen to it at different times, I'll understand it at different levels. Sometimes I'd understand it less, other times, like today, I'll understand it more. Perhaps because of the concentration I give it. I understood mostly perfectly, and definitely works. Although I'm Bulgarian, I've been raised in England and I am only 15. If I can understand it, any Slav should.

Bulgarian has many non-Slavic words in it (old Bulgarian was closer to Persian than to the Slavic languages) but for almost all of them, there are synonyms of Slavic origin. Also the grammar of Bulgarian is a bit peculiar. However, with the right choice of words and simplifying grammar Bulgarian can be spoken in a way understandable to most other Slavic speakers.

I like how Bulgarian sometimes didn't understand Interslavic but commented on all Polish without a problem. I am Ukrainian (so i know ukrainian and russian), who also learned Polish so it was a bit unfair but interslavic language really did impress me, i understood everything without any problem as if it was my native language. P.s. Croatian guy actually did a good job asking what finger he is talking about. Since it is the experiment of understanding the language, details matter and he needed to find out if he talk about finger called "Big finger" or about biggest\longest finger. But i agree it was not likely he talked about longest one.

@MartianCZ There are many places where English is useless. It was quite surprising for me that in Berlin (a tourist city!) it wasn't something obvious you will be understood. Or that someone could speak back in African English. It sounds nice but it's horrible to decipher. French are infamous because of their lack of willingness to speak English even if they can but they're not the only nation to act like that. In many Slavic countries old people will more likely speak Russian because USSR influence. Even in UK it's difficult to understand the locals Interslavic is better than English. It might work only with slavs but it always works. English is hit or miss. When traveling it's always important to learn at least the most basic phrases, especially if one wants to go somewhere else than mainstream tourist traps. Or learn Interslavic and be happy knowing any slav will understand you

If this becomes a common 2nd language in Slavic countries, a lot of non-Slavic speakers would be encouraged to learn it since you can use it in so many countries.
Данияр Ержанов
Dude, there is a lot of non Slavic countries that speak Slavic languages, that would be really cool if we will use and develop this language all together. For example, I am from Kazakhstan, we speak Russian here a lot, some people don’t even speak kazakh. Apart from Kazakhstan there is Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, etc, lots of countries. Plus, I guess same thing could be done with Turkic languages. Imagine, to live in most part of euarasia and communicate with people easily, you would need to know only 2-3 languages. Like this one Slavic language, same thing Turkic language, and English or other for Western Europe. Also would be great if there would be somekind of work made for eastern Asian languages, like Korean, Japanese, Chinese. That would be really cool, to speak with any person in the world you would need to know only like 4-6 languages. While there are over hundred of them, but many of them came from same group.
