I would say, don't stress about the list too much. Your army list will evolve over time once you learn how it plays and how you, as a general, like to approach the battle. And everyone likes buying new troops every once in a while, to try this instead of that. Don't worry about making it perfect.

FINALLY someone made a video like this! Every single how to play 40k / how to get into 40k either walks you through the phases or tells you about the factions. This is literally the first video I've found that tells you what you're actually supposed to DO with that information. As someone new to 40k but with a strong grasp on other types of games, I know what each thing does in its parts but don't know how to put it together. I know AP is good against armor and blast is good against large units, but I have no idea how important one or the other is and how much I should have of what.

First ask yourself: "What do I do if [BLANK] happens?" of "What if my opponent brings [BLANK]?" Keep this question general. What will you do if a big super tough monster is stomping up field? What if there's a a load of infantry swarming over a point? What if close combat specialists are coming in? What if your enemy has loads of transports to ferry around their dudes and throw at you once that job is done? Next ask yourself: "How do I win?" Well, to win in 40k you need victory points. To get victory points you USUALLY have to capture and control objectives that are in the mid-field. You might also score victory points doing some other stuff usually related to moving somewhere and killing something specific immediately. Finally tell yourself: "No plan survives contact with the enemy." Start visualizing how the enemy serves you those minor defeats. Terminators teleporting in, Tyranids bursting from the ground. Snipers taking out an expensive character. Your one anti-monster / tank vehicle or squad getting identified and gunned down at range before it can bring down a tough foe. Always be asking: "And then what?" and "What happens next?". Keep your answers to these questions somewhat pessimistic.

It will specify on the mustering side of the datasheet what options a unit has for wargear. I can’t remember with Lynchguard, but it will either say “any model can replace warscythe”, in which case you can have any number in a squad with either options, or it will say “all models can replace”, in which case all models in the unit must make the change together. If I had to guess, just because the shield is a defensive option, it would be the latter.

GW made this extremely confusing for new players. @StarkMaximum
@StarkMaximum 5 meses atrás
As much as I love Gravis and I wish I could do a whole Gravis army, there just aren't a lot of Gravis units; you're gonna be stuck to about, i dunno, three or four units total? And the ones you get aren't exactly setting the world on fire...well, I guess they kinda do since they can be given flamers and meltas, but you know what I mean. Believe me, restricting yourself to an extremely narrow niche of units is going to be a struggle even if your army is super cool. I would just grab your favorite Gravis units, kit those out to be total badasses, and then fill your list out with more "regular" troops.
@FutureCommentator
@FutureCommentator 5 meses atrás
@@StarkMaximum I don't plan on winning with this list, I just want to see how it does in this edition. Feirros and the Biologis would be useful in this list, and they'll be supplemented by Repulsors and Repulsor Executioners and many different dreadnoughts. I also plan on dusting off my drop pods for other lists since they seem to be getting useful now. Not for gravis, of course, but for the rest of my army.

I just picked up my Leviathan box today and have been going through the rules book, and I can’t find any “spells” for Psykers or similar units. For example, my Black Templars used to have Litanies for Chaplains. And Space Marines had Librarians with Disciplines. I can’t find any Litanies or Disciplines. The only ones I can find are under a character or unit’s Abilities, and it’s usually just one. There are no other options! Did GW get rid of all choice of “spells” in 10e? Or is this temporary, and we need to wait for each factions’ codex for “spells” to added to the new edition? Is that what the Psychic Awakening was about in 9e?
@SenecaRapson
@SenecaRapson 5 meses atrás
It's how GW handles psykers in 10e now. In 9th, even with Psychic Awakening you could choose X abilities per psyker from a discipline list. In 10e there is no Psychic phase and most psychic abilities are treated as a weapon on the datasheet with the keyword psychic on it. Some also have an ability with psychic in parentheses next to the name on the right side of their datasheet.
@reavern
@reavern 5 meses atrás
@@SenecaRapson I know that the Psychic phase is gone in 10e but I didn’t think that all Psyker “spells” were gone. I thought the reason they were moved to the Command phase was because the timing of the Psychic phase caused problems or confusion with certain spells, and since the goal of 10e is to simplify and streamline the game, that change made sense. But I don’t like removing the CHOICE of “spells” from the game. That’s too extreme.
@hmad898

they're pretty much all command phase abilities or guns (essentially) now. the thousand sons are pretty much the only place for shadow wizard money gang members now
@kamikeserpentail3778
@kamikeserpentail3778 5 meses atrás
And that all seems fine to me. Removing the "choice" of spells makes it so people have to choose based on units instead. Besides, there wasn't all that much of a choice, some spells were clearly just better than others. Now by tying them to the model, they can "balance" around that one ability rather than a whole slew of them.

I really dislike the restrictive rules for squad sizes. I know GW is trying to simplify 10e, but the binary choice of minimum or maximize squad size is stupid. Not only does it cause needless frustrations for army list building and un-spent points to be wasted, but it’s causing problems for Transports. For example, I’m a Black Templars player and I want to use an Impulsor and/or Repulsor to transport certain units. The Impulsor has a capacity of 6 (standard) models and the Repulsor has 12 models. In 9e, I used to load an Impulsor with 5 Bladeguard Veterans and a Chief Apothecary, rush them to a mid-field objective, and camp there for the entire game, being virtually impossible to shift. But 10e’s rules force me to take either 3 or 6 Bladeguards, and an Apothecary can’t lead Bladeguards. I either have to take only 3 Bladeguards and a Bladeguard Ancient or Lieutenant or Captain as Leader, or take 6 Bladeguards and no leader, to fit them in the Impulsor. For the Repulsor, I used to load 10 Sword Brethren and 1 or 2 HQ/Support units to fill the 12 slots. Grimaldus is accompanied by 3 servitor models, so he couldn’t fit in the Repulsor with 10 SBs, but that was ok in 9e because he didn’t have to be attached to the SB unit as the leader; I could Advance him up the board and catch up to Sword Brethren in a turn or two. But I can’t do that in 10e because Grimaldus must be attached to the Sword Brethren squad to grant his 5+ Feel No Pain. I don’t think Grimaldus can fit into the Repulsor with 11 Sword Brethren because Grimaldus’ unit composition lists his model and 3 servitor models; that would be 15 models, and the Repulsor can only hold 12. That might fly in a friendly game, but I don’t think it would be legal in a GW tournament… unless GW releases a FAQ clarifying this. Regardless, the min-max squad sizes are needlessly restrictive! It’s especially frustrating because the new WH40K App makes us increase the models in a squad in increments of 1 - instead of min or max squad size options - and it doesn’t automatically adjust the wargear quantities to match the number of models. These kind of annoyances are why WH40K players didn’t use the old WH40K app! It doesn’t seem like GW has learned their lesson from 9e.
