This is probably my favorite Free song. There must be something magic in the expression "wishing well" while there is also Wishing Well - a song by Dio Sabbath - which is probably not only my favorite Dio Sabbath song, but my TOP3 song of all!

Absolute Beauty, Emotion, and raw talent at its core. Few things get better than this. They have been underrated since the beginning and to this day are still one of the most underrated bands ever. It’s sad that generation never gave them the notoriety and props they deserve.

I'd say the other way around: Lynyrd Skynyrd were the "American Free". Although Skynyrd had been there since mid-sixties, the proper Skynyrd sound started in early seventies, highly influenced by Free. Both bands great though, and Ronnie Van Zant also a great singer. Skynyrd got more accolades, bur Free were the progenitors of the stripped down, raw bluesy sound we all love.

@Euan Elliott no that's what Rogers said about Wishing Well in an interview with 'Uncut" Magazine, read for yourself, the link is below. I make no claims as to if it's true or not, you will have to ask Rogers about that There is speculation as to whether the song is about Bevan T Woodhouse and the song does fit him better than it does Kossoff but I tend to believe Rogers, in fact he's not sure himself, and it's probably just the unconscious composite influence of the lives of several people. In fact Rogers said in the same interview that he always thought of Kossoff as a "together" kind of guy and that he seemed to be that way the whole time he knew him. The reason the band broke up wasn't because of Kossoff, it was because Rogers and Fraser couldn't get along and Rogers felt he wasn't allowed enough influence in the band
Euan Elliott
Euan Elliott 3 meses atrás
@No Name With the greatest of respect, I think you're confusing Wishing Well with Shooting Star by Paul's later band Bad Company. People often asked whether it was about Kossoff and Rodgers replied it was a generalisation of people living the hard life of a rock musician. In effect, an imaginary person.

One of the greatest but short-lived rock bands ever! And one of the most tragic at the end of the day! I remember Paul Kossof''s father used to present the Epilogue on BBC television in England from time to time. Did not know until much later though that he was the father of Paul, who died as a result of his health being wrecked through damned drugs!
