Fucking Green Book. I was appalled when I heard it won. Shit, Crash was better than Green Book.

Where is The Pianist ? In 2002, it won 3 academy awards for the best actor, best director and best adapted screenplay.

The Oscars have always been a mixed bag. The movies I think shouldn't have won Best Picture: Cimarron (It should have gone to Dishonored), All The Kings Men (should have gone to The Heiress), How Green Was Your Valley (Maltese Falcon or Citizen Kane...and yes I know technically Citizen Kane wasn't allowed to compete), The Greatest Show On Earth (High Noon or Singing In The Rain), Around The World In 80 Days (The Ten Commandments), Oliver (Lions In Winter), Kramer vs Kramer (Apocalypse Now or La Cage Aux Foilles), Chariots Of Fire (obviously Raiders Of The Lost Ark), Out Of Africa (The Color Purple), Forest Gump (Shawshank Redemption), Rain Man (Dangerous Laisons), Driving Miss Daisy (Dead Poets Society or the underapreciated Do The Right Thing), Dances With Wolves (Goodfellas), Braveheart (Apollo 13 or Sense And Sensibility), English Patient (Fargo), Shakespeare In Love (obviously Saving Private Ryan), Gladiator (Obviously Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), Crash (The Producers or Brokeback Mountain), The Departed (Dreamgirls wasn’t nominated but it was better then everything that was that year), Argo (Django Unchained or Life Of Pi), Green Book (The Favorite or Roma), Birdman (Grand Budapest Hotel or Gone Girl) and Spotlight (Mad Max Fury Road or The Danish Girl).

A lot of people of the people in the comments below (I've noticed) all seem to hate the Oscars, but for completely different reasons. I see one comment below mine saying that Saving Private Ryan should've won for 1998 and a comment below that one saying that the Oscar's have a bias for war movies. I've seen people complain about how the Oscar's pay to much attention to blockbusters and others say that they don't pay enough attention to blockbusters and instead focus on hipster indie films. Everyone has a different complaint, but they can all agree on one thing: The Oscar's are trash. What I've found from all of your comments is that there's a bigger problem with the Oscar's that I think everyone can agree on and it's the fact that only a select few people are choosing the winners rather than the people as a whole. Our nation is a democracy! We should vote on what wins.

Revenge of the Sith should have won over Crash in 2005. What a mediocre film Crash was and Revenge of the Sith has aged like a fine wine.

what about pulp fiction, terminator 2, the shining, mad max fury road, 2001: a space odyssey, good fellas, the dark knight, jaws, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, empire strikes back, psycho, and for some reason CITIZEN KANE? why didn't these movies win?
JustAPrayer
JustAPrayer 14 horas atrás
Actually Citizen Kane was considered controversial to even be nominated back then. Orson Wells based the protagonist on a newspaper writer, William Hearst, who was so angry at this he blacklisted the movie's press and called Welles a communist among other things. And it clearly worked cause this movie did pretty poorly in theaters at the time. It's a miracle it got nominated for anything honestly. As for Dark Knight and 2001 A Space Odyssey and Star Wars, the academy has always kinda been dismissive of superhero and sci fi films.

What this tells me, as far as "the best movie of the year" is that for the last ten+ years the powers that be have chosen to go down a divisive and petty path, and the films that were "selected" pretty much sucked. FUCK politikal korrectness...and everything associated with it. Read a book instead...and if you want your children to read books, better get some Dr. Seuss books while they're still available.
