I’ve had the opportunity to shoot some of the top brands. When it comes to buying a new bow, I think everyone should go into the local shop and shoot a few different options. Buy what feels best, especially if you are getting a flagship. With the hype around the VXR, marketing, and cosmetics, I thought I was going to buy one. But after shooting all of them I went a different route. Sweet video, and I do believe it’s one of the better hunting bows on the market!

I am still shooting a 2008 drenalin, 28.5 70lbs, before that one I was shooting a Hoyt Ultra-tech with cam and 1/2... Should I get the 2020 VXR or see what they come out with, in 2021?

@Aaron Breeden I think I might get a brand new VXR.. I have never had a brand new bow. I have gotten all of my bows slightly used.. I kinda want a brand new one for a change.. :)

Whole lot of side to side movement at full draw. NOT knocking you or your form....just an observation.

You need to lower your draw length, Your arrow is coming way too far back on your face.
Kgsoloman5000
Kgsoloman5000 4 meses atrás
Not to sound like a know it all; what is happening is your dropping your front arm because you’re aiming at a low target and you’ve consistently done this so it’s become habit for you, you’ve increased your draw length to accommodate for this. Your bow arm should be level with your front shoulder when you shoot. To aim at a low target you need to bend at the waist. This is the reason your string is coming over an inch past the corner of your mouth and the string is still not touching your nose. Try this. Draw with your bow hand level with your front shoulder, come to your anchor while your Keeping that form, you’ll see your draw length is considerably too long. Draw length measurements are approximate. The area on your arrow behind it’s fletchings should be fit between your lower lip and chin, this allows for proper arrow clearance. Sorry for ranting but this will help your shooting tremendously.

It's probably the brake in my left arm. DL is set at 29. Any less and I can feel it in my back. Ive been shooting 29 for years and been measured plenty of times.

Where do you get the music used for your videos? I’m a gear junkie so I thought I should start reviewing stuff since I have so much stuff. I have the vertix and thinking of getting the VXR too and running a garmin sight on it and having a fixed pin sight on the Vertix. Did you say you got the 28 or the 31?

I shot the vxr 31.5" and the Hoyt rx4 ultra. I've been a mathews man the last few years. Have a halon 32 and had the triax also. To me the triax draw was smoother than the vxr. I shot both at 70 lbs and 30" dl needless to say I fell in love with the rx4 ultra draw was buttery smooth with the "3 cam and actually shot it at 30.5" bc on 30 the Hoyt felt short where as the mathews on 30" was a true 30" the Hoyt on 30" actually drew a little under 29 3/4 on a draw board. Back wall was solid the vxr might have been a tad more dead in the hand after the shot but not by much. I shoot heavy arrows anyways so I'm not worried about the little bit of speed losing from the vxr to the rx4 ultra. I was looking more for comfort and the rx4 ultra fit the bill. The draw was so smooth it felt like I could've drew 80lbs on that and would've been smoother than the 70lb vxr. And not to mention my dealer told me the scs system for the mathews was an extra $80. I thought it came with the bow out the box

I bet the same people bitching about him buying a new bow every year are the same ones that have to have the new iPhone every year. Aaron earns his money. He can buy what he wants. I buy the new Hoyt bow each year. Placing my order for an RX-4 this week. Those of us who shoot almost every single day can justify buying a new bow. If you break it down 2 grand a year for a new bow setup really isn't that much. I bet a lot of you spend more than that on cigarettes alone or eating out a lot during the week throughout the year. It's our money, not yours. Awesome video Aaron! Sweet rig too! Good luck with it in the woods and in the mountains!

So u don't buy a new bow unless u feel it's def worth the upgrade from the current bow yet you bought a triax over a Halon 32 lol then got the vertix which I like that bow and then u got the new vxr? Its your money and they are good bows but your kinda contradicting yourself little bit haha but I held the vxr 28 and really like it

I wanted to get one of these, but they are not good with long draw lengths. The draw was not smooth at all. If you have a 30" or longer draw length, try to Traverse. The 33" risers make it draw insanely smooth for long draw length and it is FAST.....I just ordered one. Guy at the shop explained it well.....the Mods they created for different draw lengths work around the "sweet spot" of the bow. If you shoot 29" or less, this thing will be sweet. Anything longer, it dumps into the full draw position.

I'll tell you, outside the tan, there is not a dime's worth of difference between these bows. Iv had my Vertix in 29 draw 70lbs since February, and it shoots quiet and smooth out of the box. I just dropped $1500 at the beginning of this year, so why would I go out, and waist another $1500 this year????? Is there really enough difference to upgrade this fast?????

Literally shot it yesterday and still had that super stiff draw!!! Still top heavy and has more vib than the vertix, the 31.5 I shot did anyway. Definitely not worth getting over the previous year models but that’s if you liked those bows. Mathews to me is falling behind and needs a new cam bad!! but you like what you like and hey we all love archery so good for you on your purchase buddy

Just left my local archery shop and shot both the 31.5 and the 28. I have never shot a high-end bow. I've been using a Bear Approach HC lately. Before that, a Bear Whitetail II. 😳 Imagine my surprise after being used to the Bear then shooting this bow. I'm going back in 2 weeks to purchase the 31.5. My God this bow is completely dead in the hand. Tag for the bow is $899. +$50 if you want it in the green.

jayonez 13 5 meses atrás
AGAIN James! I REPEAT, That’s what everyone says that still shoots a 10 year old bow. That’s just your opinion and definitely not a fact. Anyone that knows anything will tell you that a new Mathews blows any 10 year old Mathews out of the water. I’m not sure what you’re basing your opinion on besides your wallet! They’re pricing is right in line with everyone else that makes a decent bow. You can always go with the new carbon Hoyt and spend $400 more than any Mathews. The days of buying a good $600-700 bow are long gone my friend. Snap out of it already!

James Caldwell That’s what everyone says when there shooting an old bow. 😂😂😂 Let me guess you’re shooting a switchback? That’s about the only older Mathews I would still shoot today. I still have my switchback hanging on my wall. I agree with you too an extent. I went from switchback to the Z7 then to Hell-m then to the Creed. All 3 really didn’t wow me. Then the No Cam series was a flop. But when the Halon came out that all changed! Thats the bow that really did get better! I went from the Halon to the Triax. Now I’m going to the VXR and will keep the Triax as my back up bow. I shoot the Triax better than any bow I have ever owned in the past 30 years. It’s a true hunting rig. Small, Fast, easy to tune, deadly accurate, quiet, stable, truly dead in your hand! What more could you ask! No bow in 2009 did that. The 28” VXR is just a Triax that’s has some more features. Believe me the Triax, Vertix, and VXR is better than any older Mathews out there. The technology on bows have advanced so much since your 2009 bow was made. I have friends who still hunt with older bows too. But they have never said today’s Mathews are over priced junk! Everyone of them would love to own a new Matthews If their finances were better. Just saying!

All the bows people have were shop demos that were sold, not many were able to buy, they sent all the demos in ambush green unless ordered extras, some shops did get boxes tho. I bet you'll start seeing other colors, I had to buy the green it's just a beauty, very accurate bow!

Squatch Family Outdoors
Get the Axcel Accurouch Carbon Pro Excellent sight with full adjustability Also as far as bow goes..... I shot the nw one side by side with my Vertix Just not enough to switch for me 31.5 felt too heavy back to the days of the halon 32 28 felt ok though I’ve bought a new bow every year for the last few years but wasn’t very happy with this year. It’s cool and I like the color, but the other crappy thing is that Mathews won’t let you order a new vertix (or any other bow) in the ambush green....in order to push the VXR I’m keeping the vertix and grabbing a Prime Black 5 which I never thought I’d do, but their technology and “shoot-ability” is a winner this year
Squatch Family Outdoors

Great video, great music choice just a bit too loud when you did the slow mo. Love the editing and everything about it, I completely agree with this conclusion, as you know I grabbed a 2020 VXR 28 as well and its everything and more, I laugh when people say it's the same bow lol it's a totally different riser, cam system is only a little over a year with the switch weight which is genius, no other bow company can change the draw length, poundage, and let off % all with a very simple module change

God sees all!!! 6 meses atrás
@Greg G no not really, Zebra stretches and they make the Mathews bows really stiff when they are new, they do this because they are cheap and make tons of the stock strings, when I buy a GAS string or JBK they do NOT rotate or move one bit, however through the Zebra strings break in period they stretch and rotate multiple times!!! I will ruin a set of Zebra strings just by shooting in 4 months!!! In fact the first thing I do when I buy a Mathews bow is I order a new set of strings!!! Worst strings I've ever shot are Zebra strings, so cheap and horrible I can get a new set of Zebra strings for $20 all day long!!!
Greg G
Greg G 6 meses atrás
@God sees all!!! it's the process they use to manufacture the basic strings, generally speaking the material used to make Zebra Strings is very common among string builders.
God sees all!!!
God sees all!!! 6 meses atrás
It's an 1 3/8ths inches at its widest part thick wise.....If you shoot a lot of arrows the FMJs do bend! Mathews definitely has the bow build down, no other company puts as much time and money into the research and development of their bows the Mathews and it shows when you shoot them. My only gripe with them is the horrible Zebra strings
