Today, I sit down with our third time guest, the one and only Dr. Daniel Amen. Dr. Amen is a physician, double board-certified psychiatrist, twelve-time NY Times bestselling author, and founder and CEO of Amen Clinics, with 10 US locations. Dr. Amen is the author of many books including the mega-bestseller Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, as well as The End of Mental Illness, Memory Rescue, Healing ADD and Your Brain Is Always Listening. In March 2022, Tyndale will publish his new book, You, Happier: The 7 Neuroscience Secrets of Feeling Good Based on Your Brain Type.
Dr. Amen emphasizes the importance of our brain health. He explains how taking care of our brain and mental health is a constant daily practice, comparing the things we do to boost our brain health to eating foods that will love our body back, foods that we love to eat and are beneficial to our health. We share our thoughts on why our generation is the unhappiest and uncontented, what we can do to boost our happiness hormones, and how happiness is always tied to our health.
Get more science-based tips from Dr. Amen to achieve a healthier, happier, and more fulfilling life despite the challenges and difficulties we may be going through today.

As a registered nurse who has passed countless medications, I 100% ABSOLUTELY LOVE his purpose! It saddens me to see how easy practitioners will write a script, which never really gets to the root of the cause. He actually prefers to treat the root cause and attempt to change habits first. I love what Dr. Amen shared about the butterlies/hummingbirds and noticing the way it feels to hold his wife's hand. Beautiful! Being present in the moment. So good. I started keeping a gratitude journal at night, and it is transformative. I love what he said about habits and the idea of going on a "treasure hunt" each night to notice the good micro-moments of your day. I have also heard the analogy of collecting "flowers" (goodness you notice) throughout your day, and by the end, you have a bouquet! Really good stuff in this interview! Deep diaphragmatic breathing! Gotta do that more! (especially in the midst of stressful day) Love all these nuggets of wisdom. Killing the ANTS (heard him talk about that before) - writing down the negative thought and then asking "Is this true?" then asking if the opposite is true... I want to live in truth! The truth sets me free!

"Live each DAY based on clearly defined values, purpose and goals." Everyday healing: Say to myself (first thing!) in the morning: Today is going to be a great day. Ask myself: Is this good for my brain? Is this bad for my brain? Write down feelings (of stress, anxiety, anger) and ask myself: is it true? Write the opposite and ask myself: is it true? Tell myself @ night: (Prayer +) What went well today?

Hi, I am so grateful to have teachings like this. Thank you for all of the good that you do by spreading your wisdom. I have a traumatic brain injury that happened in 2020. And I have spent every waling minute doing my best to heal my brain. The strangest thing is that I am not the same person I was before I fractured my skull, and I am too scared to go to the doctor and request mri scans because I dont want to know how bad the damage is. But I also feel that nobody who knew me before the injury understands that. I did end up unemployed and homeless because of my brain injury, and to me that is such a dark manifestation of human nature, everybody turned on me. The single most miraculous thing that happened though, is that I died, and during that time I had an encounter with God and His angels, and that has provided me with so much wisdom and knowledge on how to be a better person.

Is this good for my brain or bad for my brain, every morning wake up and say Today is going to be a great day, every night, ask yourself 'What went well today?' look for all the things that went well during that day✨️💛

I love EMDR. I did over 76 sessions in a span of 3 years and… it was like high jacking the memory with my physiological response and ‘unconditioned’ me. I recommended it to EVERY one. ❤

@@LB-yo5mz You need to call around to see who offers it I'd screen them further if you have a choice. Or hope for a trustworthy recommendations. Only the 1st. Treatment really helped - in the midst of professional, Nazi Smear Campaigns and 💥Landmine Fields 💥 360°💥! My Trauma Therapist had her M.S.S.W., and it was a Start. I only had 12 Txs, though, (just B/4 COVID). For my - I'd say eXtremely, severe c-PTSD. Anyone w/ Trauma needs it. It amazes me that it's not more prevalent. Best of ☘️ Luck!

When you eat junk food it feels good in the moment but it doesn't take long before you feel yuke... As you said at the beginning of when you exercise it doesn't feel good but the long term impact on your body is so good for you. So the moral of the story is" You can pay a huge price's for Conveniences " love the podcast, thank you both so much 👍😉🇮🇪☘️Eire

I found this podcast absolutely fascinating. Usually I listen whilst doing things but I just had to stop, I took so many notes! Thank you Jay and Dr Amen for this amazing insight, I feel something in me has already changed especially after hearing what was said about 'everything in moderation' as being the excuse we tell ourselves. I have asked for You Happier for my birthday in a couple of weeks. Thank you 🙏
