@Marco Zamorano because the song is so delicate due to the dynamic of the arrangement, the string section gives power in certain moments making the song breath throughout the different moments, now with the drum every part sounds the same, it sounds aggressive (for no reason) therefore it ends up sounding flat. That’s why in my non requested opinion the drummer crashed the soul of the song, he ruined it.
@averillo Anthony You are a proud Brit for what Depeche Mode have achieved. I think their music and art has zero to do with nationalities and patriotism. Well, at least that's how I see it... 🤷🏼
It’s actually even more than that; it’s a band that gets better live, with more energy, more analogue, more zest. DM became a better live than album band from SoFaD and this has been true since then. Many of their later album tracks lack punch, but when played live, their touring band turn them into danceable, full-throttle rock music that suits the stage so very well. Looking forward to seeing them live this year!
The drummer really elevates the live performance. I wonder why they do not use him on the studio recordings, now that he is basically a part of the band.
I would tell you about the things they put me through The pain I've been subjected to But the Lord himself would blush The countless feasts laid at my feet Forbidden fruits for me to eat But I think your pulse would start to rush Now I'm not looking for absolution Forgiveness for the things I do But before you come to any conclusions Try walking in my shoes Try walking in my shoes You'll stumble in my footsteps Keep the same appointments I kept If you try walking in my shoes If you try walking in my shoes Morality would frown upon Decency look down upon The scapegoat fate's made of me But I promise now, my judge and jurors My intentions couldn't have been purer My case is easy to see I'm not looking for a clearer conscience Peace of mind after what I've been through And before we talk of any repentance Try walking in my shoes Try walking in my shoes You'll stumble in my footsteps Keep the same appointments I kept If you try walking in my shoes If you try walking in my shoes Try walking in my shoes Now I'm not looking for absolution Forgiveness for the things I do But before you come to any conclusions Try walking in my shoes Try walking in my shoes You'll stumble in my footsteps Keep the same appointments I kept If you try walking in my shoes You'll stumble in my footsteps Keep the same appointments I kept If you try walking in my shoes Try walking in my shoes If you try walking in my shoes Try walking in my shoes
Was this recorded during one of their rehearsals? If not, what was this recorded for? This is fantastic! I wish I could find more live songs from them in this type of setting.
Hm. Are music and sound two different things? In pop music they are both part of the complete work, I think. Isn‘t every piece of music just a small segment of the infinite realm of sound?
Simply an awesome version of this song. Truly gives it inertia and energy the original version does not have. I like the original version, but this one I just can't stop listening to.
I just love the entire albums of Depeche Model have released along all these years... but I must confess, "Walking in my shoes" is probably the one I like most (as if is was even possible)
Dayum, haven’t listened to this song in a long time , just gave me chill & goosebumps , just sounds better every time I listen to it , uuuuffffffffffff ❤
A fantastic group and a superlative song. Without annoying frills and without useless accessories. Only DM. And stop. True talent that exalts itself in simplicity. Sublime. 💙
I once saw the drummer live with a blues band. He played a 10 minute drum solo and the crowd asked for an encore. It became a 20 minute drum solo and there was not a moment of boredome.
ive always loved Depeche mode but not until recently have i come to realize they are one of the best song writers and performers of all time. They have the most powerful dynamics and often get me to much higher places than any drug or woman
DM always had the ability to compose epic songs that touch our heart. Making use of technology but not limited to it, able to replicate it alive, and combining tech with soulful lyrics.
@tom richardson he is not in the right place and with the right band, drumming sounds so alternative don't keep the vibe of the original track, the original snare was very important and gave a great harmony, this one sounds bland
@bloothbub I hear what you’re saying, however I think the feel is deliberate, as you can hear in the way they sing the chorus, it’s without the more vibey melody and rather approaching it in a similar way that the drums are played, more edgy & less sustain. I actually quite liked this take, as it’s got more drive to it:). Don’t get me wrong the original was awesome, but this version is different, just different. Besides, Alan Wilder was the G on the drums for this song & I don’t want anyone to replace him, so rather do something different:).
I miss the brilliant Vince Clarke. Martin Gore picked up the songwriting duties extremely well, that's saying a lot considering how great Clarke is. I would like to see them do this for all of their songs, it's worth it for the ages to come
Still, just over 30 years after Songs Of Faith And Devotion was released, this is ine of my favourite songs of that album. Saw the tour too - Dave going somewhat off the rails (and yet performing brilliantly), Martin the musical mastermind doing what he does best, Wilder and Fletch both in full swing, and indeed so were the phenomenal backing vocalists!! Even though plenty incredibly great music has been released by DM since those day, I do miss thát particular band....
I saw these guys in the Seattle Arena in about 2003. They were never the best Ah the convert was awesome. They were "Playing the Angel " and some old ones. 😃
