The Moonshine Mob boss fight is by far the most creative boss fight in all of cuphead in my opinion. They used a scrapped cuphead character in it and they even went so far as to add that weird thing called the light into the game too. And the fake knockout thing is just great. 10/10 bossfight.
And the developers are still using hand drawing animations every single panel, you know just like earlier cartoon in 1930's. No wonder it takes so long. And it's worth the wait!
Still one of the most visually amazing video games ive ever seen. Like this beats so many ultra 4k high tech multimillion dollar games by a landslide. the cartoony aesthetic and the soundtrack is so distinct and amazing
Everyone who didn't understand why DLC took so long to come out need only look to two places: first, the animation quality (pristine), and second, the small team who put it together (incredible). Well worth the wait imo.
You hit the nail on the head. People now a days whine for good quality film/games but forget that good things take time and plenty of effort. I for one waited for this DLC with patience and gratitude.
The howling aces boss looks crazy in that final stage where it changes the screen. Super trippy, I feel like this will be one of the hardest Edit: I beat the boss and can confirm it’s super trippy, however controls aren’t inversed so it’s not as bad Edit 2: Thanks for the likes
Aside the great boss battle of Chef Saltbaker, the ending is wholesome. After being sent to prison he was forced to work on the other bosses by fixing and cleaning their homes. He also learned his lessons and slowly turned into a good person, he became an opened-minded character and started see the other bosses appreciation because of his hard work. Once his bakery is fixed, he invited all the people around him including the Cuphead Trio to his party to celebrate at his new bakery Tbh Chef Saltbaker is a great plot character.
I love the fact that Studio MDHR took the animations, artstyle and creativity from a 10/10 to a 15/10. All these bosses are insanely clever and well animated to boot
I love all the new voice work in this dlc. It feels like all the characters talk more and make a lot more sounds than the characters in the main campaign
When I was on the battle with the Chef I literally said "STOP WATCHING THE CHEF ANIMATIONS AND PAY ATTENTION ON THE PROYECTILES IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO DIE AGAIN" what a good DLC
What I really love is how well thought-out and wackier these new bosses are. It seems like MDHR were finally able to embrace the concepts entirely while no longer having to worry about time restraints or budgetary problems. Everything here feels carefully put together while at the same time being so insane you can’t help but smile through the boss fight scenarios.
I loved how hectic these boss fights were, you couldn't calculate them as much as you could main game. Definitely made it a lot harder but a lot more fun lmao. Auto-parry is definitely your best friend in the dlc
3:42 OH MY GOD I KNOW THIS REFERENCE!! There was an old cartoon I used to watch on a VHS tape about an anteater (who looks just like this one) terrorizing this society of ants. The ants had houses, and technology and their army platoon had a little jingle that I still remember to this day. My god, that took me back. Edit: The cartoon is called Ants in the Plants.
@Emperorkarmore There's also a thing called, "I'm not the only who doesn't has money, so I understand. But I made this comment just so I can praise the team for their great work. And hope that *other people who have money and did buy the gsme* bought the DLC." Sorry, but I did find your comment a little bit sudden.

I don't really play these kinds of games myself but I can only imagine the sheer confusion and panic people felt when the female dog pilot's plane just rotated the screen the first time they played this DLC. Edit: It took me such a long time to realize that in the battle with Saltbaker, you could still see the trapped soul of Cuphead/Mugman/Chalice (all differs depending on which character you used/if you equipped the cookie or not) in the back in the first and third phases of the battle. It’s a really nice but still a somewhat horrifying detail.
After 4 years they finally released the dlc and I think this was worth it cuase the detail, bonus story and music is super nostalgic 👌 I'm glad they brought Cuphead back
I loved the fact the Munshine Mob has still one small boss at the end that most ppl would fail beating if they think that knockout in paper is the end of the boss. I'd also get frustrated if the snail killed me in surprise.
DLC is one of those games I'm actually happy the bad guy redeems himself. Saltbaker just seemed innocent and I kinda felt bad that his bakery got destroyed even tho he did try to take over the "astral plane". He obviously did love to bake and it was just the idea of true power that got to his head.
I like how they reference some of the unused bosses such as the first and second phases of the Moonshine Mob referencing the spider boss and light boss (respectively) and The King's Tournament referencing the Jellyfish boss.
I love the detail that in the dogfight boss, the character that flies your plane is the little bottle man who gave you the plane blueprints on the first island.
The animations in this dlc are so good they actually make it less faithful to the feel of the original Fleischer cartoons, which is honestly an amazing achievement by the studio.
The one thing I learned from this video is that chaser is amazing as the bosses move around so much. Also that the howling aces is by far my favorite boss fight.
I used to think that Chef Saltbaker is trying to help the Cuphead Trio and he is such a jolly nice man, I tried to denied him to be the Final Boss and the Main Villain. But, it looks like this convinces me otherwise. Well played.
@Fan Gamer Look closely in Phase 1 of the fight at his arms, you should be able to see a slight change in colour between the salt and the air inside of him
I kinda get the vibe that this dlc is referencing how animation is evolving throughout the years. Because like the main game’s cast of enemies looked more like main characters from cartoon shorts, but in this one I get the feeling big cartoon movies.
They were all very fun to play with. But I’d have to say that the bosses I loved the most were all of them! Glumstone the Giant was very creative. He gives warning signs (just like Sally Stageplay), cute ideas like King Dice and Devil puppets passing the ball to each other, and he also swallows us! The Moonshine mob had a different feel to it. From the snail saying the intro, to trying to trick us by making us think that the game ended. Esther Winchester had catchy background music and creative transformations. The howling aces had interesting mechanics where you get to tilt the airplane, where the screen rotates, and much more! Mortimer Freeze also had very awesome transformations and you had to go outside the arena into a new place! The secret boss also had cool mechanics where the devil is always in front of you! Chef Saltbaker’s animations were amazing! And the parryable bosses were interesting because it teaches you how to parry well! In the end, everyone at Studio MDHR worked very hard and made many people happy. Thank you!
I only realized now that the knight's game over quote is also being represented. "A W for me and an L for you", cause the knight piece only moves in an L shape
Glumstone the giant 0:00 Moonshine mop 1:56 Esther Winchester 4:36 The howling ace 6:15 Mortimer freeze 8:09 The pawns 10:08 The knight 10:44 The bishop 12:08 The rook 13:07 The queen 14:13 Devil & angel secret boss 14:58 Chef saltbaker final boss 16:01 Ending 19:07
Ever since I saw the DLC trailer + the images of the chef saltbaker + the various scenes of him in the game, I don't know why but something told me that he was going to be a villain. Excellent.
I really like the idea of Chef Saltbaker being an all powerful mass of shapeshifting salt inhabiting a body in order to make the wondertart and become god.
For the spider boss battle it has features of a few of unused bosses heres the list 1: The flying gentleman (unused boss 2: The light’s (unused boss) laser attack (2nd phase of boss)
I love how Glumstone is barely using his actual power and is just doing stupid stuff instead lol. Also I knew Saltbaker was gonna be the villain, but I didn't think he was gonna be sadistic or pull a Magolor on us.
@BoredGuy3733 marx is not “still” evil but rather satiated as his menu screen in star allies says something along the lines of that he is helping Kirby as long as he is kept fed
The Darkest kills in Chef Saltbaker's boss fight: 16:53 Sugarcubes (Mortimer freeze) 17:02 Limes (Ester Whincester 17:08 Gnomeberries (Glumstone the giant 17:20 Dough (the howling aces Trust me on this because these ingredients are ALIVE
For someone who hasn't (able) to play the DLC yet, I am actually kinda surprised that both the Devil AND Angel are present as secret bosses in it, really!
I like the smooth transition in to saltbaker final phase. When he starts yelling and the screen dims. Also weirdly I like the final phase with his face whirling down the side LMAOO
Imagine being a gaint who's back is like a mountain and fights a small cup and she focused you to rip off your own beard after hundreds or thousands of years of growing the big beard and ripping it off
I feel like Chef saltbaker is an even better villain than the devil for two reasons. Firstly because he Was a twist villain. It worked cause by the trailers and most of the game he seemed like an Support character who just is there to help chalice to become mortal again. Which is why it comes as a suprise that he is in reality a heartless monster. Secondly because of how terrifying and evil he is potrayed. The devil Was potrayed more like just some 20s cartoon villain who doesn't appear that much in the game at all and doesn't appear that terrifying. With Chef saltbaker it's completly different. His face expression Was the one of a Psychopath, during the Boss battle he litteraly kills living beings, just to use the parts of their corpses to battle you. Hell this guy is wrong in many ways. And the music. When battling the other bosses and even the devil, the music Was always joyful, to make you feel like in a 20s cartoon. But with Chef saltbaker the music feels like it comes from a horror movie which makes him appear more terrifying and powerfull.
@The little pink sheep He sayed at the very beginning that a heart and a soul are the most important ingredient to a recipe, foreshadowing that he will use one of the Trios soul to bake the Wondertart.
@The little pink sheep it actually is foreshadowed at the start he says "intrepid cups" intrepid can mean annoying or other bad things I realized that meaning it was foreshadowed
@peanut yeah but even King Dice looks more frightening than him, the Devil looks pretty boring, just a furty monster with horns, I'd expect the main villain to look somewhat more unique
