Can you guys remember any other instances of a QB getting ejected? It is pretty uncommon, especially for targeting. Edit: Just uploaded part 3

In the play he was a DB, so he should know how to hit correctly. I’d understand more if it was a QB playing the QB position.

In 2009, Iowa blocked a game-winning field goal attempt by Northern Iowa. UNI recovered the ball with time and was able to attempt another FG, which was blocked again. As far as I know, this is the only instance of consecutive blocked FGs. Love your vids btw.

One of my college's DIII homecoming games my team was down 7, but the opposition got a seeming pick-6 to seal the game as time expired. Only problem being, their whole team ran out onto the field to celebrate before the play was blown dead, leading to a too many men on the field penalty and another chance for my team that my team promptly took advantage of by scoring and capped it off by converting on the 2-point play to outright win the game. Those were some of the most dejected looking players I have ever seen...

@Ryan Smith this is the recap from the school that won the game: “Facing a 3rd-and-10 from the Cobber 17-yard-line with 0:01 on the clock quarterback Erik Peterson (So., Orono, Minn.) was stripped, which induced a parade of Concordia personnel onto the field, however, no one had gained possession and by the time a Cobber picked up the ball and ran 71 yards for a CC score penalty flags littered the field. The Cobbers had been penalized with unsportsmanlike conduct - its only penalty of the game - for coming onto the field while no one had possession, which gave the Royals one more opportunity to score from the nine-yard-line. With one final play Peterson found Jay Hilbrands (Sr., Clara City, Minn.) on the far corner of the end zone for the score. Instead of kicking the extra point, Bethel decided to attempt a two-point conversion, which was successful via a Peterson to Mitch Hallstrom (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) toss-ending the game victoriously for the Royals.”

Its really interesting watching these videos and seeing the evolution of football, specifically the rules about when a runner is defenseless, when a catch is actually a catch vs and interception because they didnt establish themselves as a "runner", but also the equipment and the announcers just in this one video range like 40+ years, which seems like 100 years in football terms. Good stuff. I miss the old days.

if they're "ejecting" players from a game, i think the players should be literally ejected out of the catapult or equivalent.
Legend has it this was the case back in the day, but after many lawsuits and star player deaths, the term was changed to ‘disqualified’

That Mizzou-Florida game...around that time period, there was a stat out there that teams who held their opponents to 120 or fewer total yards of offense in a game were 148-2 over...however many years that was. The two losses? 2011 Florida vs. Florida State, and 2014 Florida vs. Mizzou, both at the Swamp, both under Will Muschamp. And if that stat doesn't sum up the Muschamp years succinctly, I dunno what does.

1:58 Interceptions in the end zone are relatively common, but they are almost always in the defense's end zone. Interceptions in the offense's end zone for an automatic defensive touchdown are very unusual!

That MSU field goal attempt reminds me of a playoff game I had in high school. We played in Abilene, TX, and the wind gusts were in the 30s. Our kicker/punter was the top guy in the state. He tried to punt one low and long into the wind, but it ended up being a 7-yard punt officially. The wind literally caught the ball midflight and blew it backward like 25 yards 😂
Fred Lougee

I seem to recall a game at Soldier Field that made the lowlights on SportsCenter. Heavy cross wind, the city earned it's popular moniker that day. Every FG attempt was wide to the downwind side.

I hate the targeting call. I feel like when it needs to be called, it’s not, and when it is called, the player is usually leading with their shoulder, but then it slips up to become helmet to helmet contact.

the cheerleader and band one is because they were screaming “hut” and “go” confusing the snapper and the defense. it’s justified people just didn’t know why they were doing. same stuff happens at highschool games all the time.

The ejection part of the rule needs to change. In a game, 1st time 15 yards, 2nd targeting 15 yards and ejection. I have seen a lot of targeting call where the player lead with his shoulder, but his target’s got low and it ended with helmet to helmet. He lead with his shoulder not the crown helmet

Thanks for adding that zona cal clip! These vids are fun. There was a bowl game between Iowa and Oklahoma where the sky camera fell on the field and then Utah and Oregon had a 99 yard fumble return the other way because the player dropped the ball on the 1 yard line thinking he scored a touchdown.

8:19 A little bit confused for the extension. Are there any time-frame problems, like does it matter if the kicking team commits a foul before or after the change of possession? Does the receiving team get one untimed down as long as they have clean hands?
Rick Haavisto
Rick Haavisto 3 meses atrás
sbc7246 Correct...but if the penalty on the kicking team happens before the change in possession, there is no untimed down...
sbc7246 7 meses atrás
So by this play, does that mean if the foul committed by offense is before the change of possession, the defense can choose to decline the penalty and end the regulation?
Gabe Pollock
Gabe Pollock 7 meses atrás
A penalty on the defense with no time remaining cannot end the game, and the offense is entitled to one untimed down. If I’m understanding what happened correctly, the kicking team commits a foul after the change of possession, which triggers the untimed down rule. If the penalty were on a dead ball or prior to the kick, yardage would’ve been assessed & I think they would’ve been allowed to retry the field goal.
Roger 4 meses atrás
15:30 Illegal spinning? Could someone please explain that? Neutral zone infraction?? Making the offensive player jump?

I was the kicker for my high school football team, and we were playing a home game. We were 4th and some ridiculous yardage. We had a pretty strong wind that day and was raising hell with our passing game, so I punted. That ball caught the wind, went out about 10 yards, came back 20 yards, and back down. Yeah, as I recall, we lost that game.

2:18 slowed it down to see if it was truly an interception or a forced fumble. To me it looks like QB's arm goes forward before the hit which makes it an interception. I acknowledge that the score result is the same, but it still makes a difference on the stat sheets (both sides)

I was at that game with NAUs qb getting called for targeting, and while I honestly don't think it was targeting it was hilarious seeing this supposed calm composed senior qb let the crowd get to him and throwing a temper tantrum, he lost the game for his team with that reaction. They were out of sorts all game after that
RIPJimmyA7X 4 meses atrás
@Pat Trottier it's one of the stupider things you can do for sure lol don't give an already rabid crowd even more fuel, it's one of the reasons EWU has so much success in that stadium, they stay very composed. I hate em but they are well coached

@hegemony cricket I watch every griz game, I knew that stitt coached team and how they just rolled over and died at the first sign of trouble. It may have been early but NAU was just going to enforce their will, move the ball up and down the field vs that terrible defense and us with our 4th string qb wouldn't move the ball. That play added with the reaction simultaneously gave us life and caused them to panic

5:20 so I actually have some insight into the call given here. Since on field entertainment like band and cheer teams count as part of the home team's on field personnel, they are subjected to the same rules about interfering. They are not allowed to shout or make a show that disrupts play while the play is happening. I am part of a band and we are told specifically, you can stand and cheer, but as soon as the play starts your ass is in a seat, and you are quiet.

If you make another one, do Austen Arnaud, QB of Iowa State, punting on 4th down near the end of the game against Colorado in 2009 (where Iowa State made it look like they were going to go for it to win, then Arnaud punted it)! You haven't done that one yet!

As a Kansas fan, I can't believe we did anything good enough, let alone against Oklahoma, to warrant being in this video

Bob Stitt, offensive genius! I love that he made one of your highlight reels.

yes, off genius but a poor head coach. put no value on defense or special teams while at Montana.

Just so everybody understands penalty flags are usually filled with either sand or metal balls so that they do something other than stall after three feet. So when a player gets hit in the eye by one it can be a legitimate career ender.

And basically was for Orlando Brown, Sr. He was hit in they eye by a flag and missed three full seasons (plus the end of the season in which he was injured). He did return to play later, but wasn't the same.

The notable thing about the New Mexico State game wasn't the foot catch, it's that New Mexico State won a football game.

God watching that Notre Dame vs. Stanford clip just made my skin crawl, those were the Dark Ages for sure. Long way back to see where we were then to where we are now, night and day. We are ND !!! #GoIRISH #CFPbound2022

5:52 is the weirdest play of all time. I consider it evidence of a glitch in the matrix or some kind of divine intervention. It defies the laws of physics. There has never been another field goal attempt that comes close to resembling it.

I could’ve sworn fumbles can’t be advanced forward? I saw at least like 6-7 of those instances.
