*This is by far the hardest skyrim experience I have ever constructed and the results were a magnificent existence of finding the simple balanced pleasures in life!* I hope you all liked todays video and perhaps would like more?
@mgunter Yeah you'd think if you're gunna keep rebranding the same game to sell over and over and over again for over a decade, you'd at least patch it all up along the way lol
Technically having a wood axe or pickaxe in your inventory without being equipped isn't using them as a weapon, and if you activate a wood pile or an ore vein, it will automatically use them as tools but you won't equip them as weapons or be using them as weapons ^_^
@Da Boomchakalaka probably to make things more difficult. Magic is generally seen as the weakest option in Skyrim from what I've seen (it's still plenty strong, just a bit harder to do anything really busted with it with out exploits)
@Demikus I think he probably ate a stew that gave him constant magika regen similar to eating one that gives you constant stamina regen so you can power attack constantly that let him cast a concentration spell like that constantly. Hence why it suddenly ended.
I love the idea of the dragonborn just sorta deciding to just pretend that helgen didn't happen and went on to live a simple life as a farmer with a wife and kids.
Frodo: "Sam, lets pretend Sauron never happened and keep living a normal farming life with just u and me. Screw Shire, screw Mordor, lets just live as we can"
i played untill you get the first quest from high hrothgar and then did that until I decided to beat the civil war questline, killed mirrak, got an ebony sword (one of the best swords for my build) and then started getting back on track
I played for awhile as a regular person lol. No magic, no shouts. Just anything a mortal could use to survive in survival mode. This video makes me want to do it again at length, but it was tedious lmao
I do love that idea by the way. Some of my fav things are low magic dnd settings. It makes you releize how insane being a normal perosn in this world is and how even the weakest level 2 adventure is built diffrent(level 2 in dnd scale is in fact peak physical condition more or less. level 5 is superhuman)
I gave the challenge a go. I lasted 3 days and made it to lvl4. Some one hired 4 thugs to kill me. They chased me outside solitude. I ran to the guards hoping to be helped and got 1 shot as the guards did nothing.
I don't know about legendary difficulty, but I have discovered that (especially early level, I like to kill Anise outside Riverwood) that a Fury spell taking effect on one of the hired thugs will make every npc in an area aggro on said person... Even their own teammates. Want help from guards? Fury spell the lot of hired thugs lol
If you ever decide to attempt this again you can get Faendal in riverwood for free to do your bidding while you run away from a bandit screaming! That’s what’s I’d have done at least
If you want a free place to sleep, do Faendal’s friend mission in Riverwood. You can take the key to his house out of his inventory and use his bed and cooking facilities as often as you like. All you have to do is deliver a letter to another Riverwood resident.
Also, if you find a piece of firewood (I know you said you won’t make any under these restrictions, but you can find it now and then) you can sell it to the innkeeper in Whiterun, and she’ll let you sleep in her bed in one of the rooms above the kitchen.
In the beginning of your journey you should of gotten Faendal from Riverwood as your companion. All you had to do to get him was his simple quest and you would have gotten a decent companion for free.
Also he gives you a bit of gold from his job at the lumber mill if I remember right. 2 birds with one stone, a companion to help out and some spending cash for room and board.
This unironically looks like a fun way to play. I've played skyrim for like 3k hours and this genuinely took my interest in the game from negative 100 to fairly high
@ask and you shall receive Better spent? This world is about trying to live happily. If you're living happy you're spending that time well. Everything else is a waste of time.
@ask and you shall receive it is not a waste it brings you joy does it not? What you do in your free time is yours to dictate away from judgement, I do not believe it is possible to waste your life or your free time because it is yours and you choose what to do with it and it brings you joy and does not affect you in any detremental way and does not directly harm anybody else then you should keep playing without judging yourself based on others perception of you, sleep well and have fun
@Vergil of the astral clocktower although I appreciate your dedication and it’s impressive but I can’t help but wonder how that time could be better spent and I’m just as guilty because I’ve played pa4 for 2 hours a day for 3 years and I used to have to tell myself it’s a wast and I often felt like I need to stop playing.
@KingKajiit2263 and all those characters are what? NPC's. That's right. Any NPC that would is out in the world actually trying to kill things is equipped to do so.
There is only one way to do this. You have to go thieves guild first and be careful not to engage in real fights. If you go fighting I would recommend you learn to be a black smith first making arrows and mining and alchemy and enchanting and avoid all combat until level 20 at minimum.
Seeing him die to his own hubris in forgetting this simple lesson is something I found very funny. If only he'd taken the time to realize he wasn't capable of fighting the enemies and that he just should have ran away. Even had he won, it's likely he'd of just died to something the same way a little later without remembering this simple rule: 'If we don't die we can run away.'
A great thing to do for survival with your rules you set, Golden Hills Plantation, you should try using that on maybe a longer Survival challenge its worth it for sure P.s Yorkshire tea is just 👌
A problem right from the beginning an axe being treated as a weapon, but you don't need to equip it. Otherwise it sounds as nonsensica as forbidding oneself to pick armor for sale.
I just saw the bit where you said that having the farm as your own house wasn’t valuable. It’s INSANELY valuable! You can grow huge amounts of potion ingredients and earn profits from the farm itself.
Spiffing Brit: “I will not be tempted by anything off the side road until I get to the city” Also Spiffing Brit: “There’s a farm, it looks good, I’m gonna do it… THERE’S A GHOST”
Yeah this definitely needs another go. Would love to see it with the rules tweaked too so it changes up how you play through these first two weeks as well. Something like: you can use weapons, armor, and enchantments, but only what you personally craft. The living hell it'd be to try and brave dungeons to find loot you could use to break down and learn enchantments would be an interesting risk/reward decision.
You could change the rules to no magic or ranged fighting interactions. Like a Puritan warrior build. Honeslty, that would be much harder, while opening up the option of working your way up to better armor.
Wow, reading all the comments and seeing that EVERYONE feels the same is heartwarming. Spiff PLEASE make MOAR skyrim videos !!! And this challenge made you actually play the game normally and was AMAZING to watch. Greetings from a *Camel Tea* lover in Denmark
@The Spiffing Brit No you are. And if you do Skyrim more, it could be interesting to use major in-depth overhaul mods (think requim) and try to do exploitation shenanigans in those.
I'd LOVE to see this again tbh You wandering around as an alteration mage, just because you happened across that, was so fun to watch if you do it next I'd love to see some random aspects added to the starting location and or item spawn locations :D
Two comments - first you said no exploits and then you exploit the casting without mana, second may be lets change the challenge to just be a common peasant, allow your self to use a dagger and bow, and wear fur armor, that sould make it more interesting :)
Literally took the words from my mouth 🤣 I always come back to watch all of the old skyrim videos, ive seen them all a hundred times, but its still just an amazing time lol
i remember that spell glitch from one time playing when i was a kid, it seemed like low cost spells like flames worked best and being a dark elf helped, but i could never find out what caused it to happen. it might be if you use a spell thats mana cost is only slightly above your mana regen... lmk if this is a known glitch
How did you get so much salt so early in the game? I love to do cooking in Skyrim, but I have to literally hoard salt in the early game to get these numbers. I loot every barrel, stealing or not, and I buy it and steal it from every merchant. After four days and two towns I can’t see how you found so much salt!!! Teach me please! And yes please do more of these!
PLEEEEEEASE give it another go! I kept constantly watching the time of the video, and when we were nearing the end at only Day 12 I feared the worst but held a glimmer of hope that maybe there would be a sequel. LET THERE BE A SEQUEL, SPIFF!!!
I played an entire playthrough with these settings recently also, It honestly makes the game "Better" forcing you to fully interact with the world. I spent a lot of time cutting wood and mining for example to generate revenue
I was shocked he didn't complete that quest tbh - it gives MORE money and has people make alchemy ingredients for you! Between that and Ysolda he would've been set
"The only reward is that you can stay in the farm as your own house" False, you can also turn the farm into, well, a farm. Which means you can grow wheat and make potions. You can also build a stable, and receive passive income from workers you hire. No clue if they get paid after you hire them, or if it's a one-time payment for a lifetime of work, but it's also not really my problem. Just make sure you never trigger the dragons spawning or you'll be dealing with them off and on again. Hey, now that I think about it, even if you can't wear armor nothings stopping you from making and selling it, right?
I'd love to see some more videos like this. Like, try doing it in different builds. As a mage, then a thief, then a warrior, an assassin, ect. With a new build each episode
This was really fun to watch. I would love for you to do this again, would it just be too easy if you had access to weapons and or armor? I don't understand why that rule is in place.
This was engrossing. I agree with others that just watching you play the game normally trying to survive, getting attached to the character, being genuinely scared for his safety and sad at his loss...it really was amazingly wholesome and enjoyable. Would definitely like to see some more cracks at it.
Having to eat was one of my favorite things in red dead 2 and I’m happy they added it to Skyrim. I also really appreciate the no fast travel element and the warmth
This was great, loved the video. I really hope that you do end up coming back to this challenge, as it would be great to see you complete the 100 days. Totally spiffing, good job, cheerio.
@Hwk 1901 It's a feature, not a bug. If Bethesda left it in the game you can be rest assured it is a gameplay mechanic, given their track record of releasing perfectly balanced, exploit-free AAA games!
Today I started an unmodded (except for Creation Club content) Anniversary Edition playthrough, with Legendary difficulty and survival mode on. The last time I played without mods was years ago, on normal difficulty and vanilla Skyrim (not even the DLCs), and this playthrough so far is a really interesting experience. Without mods, and with such a high difficulty (honestly, legendary difficulty wouldn't nearly be as much of a challenge without survival mode, the lack of health regeneration can be very problematic since you lose at least half your health on any hit ; I just got out of Bleak Falls Barrow, it was a pain in the ass). But I can really immerse myself in the world and the original story of the game, since I am not distracted by any mod (even UI or graphic mod). I would recommend that, even for those who are used to a heavily modded Skyrim (like me), it's really fun and challenging.
This was just wonderful! Made me want to pick up Skyrim again, just to experience the existence of “refusing to be the Dragonborn and doing my own s***” with proper enthusiasm
i love the diverse feeling skyrim has depending on ur "power level" u go from killing kings for fun and dragons for money or their hide too basicaly being an npc with a dream
Wouldn't the Thieves guild be really good for this? The hardest part would be getting in but then you can start doing side quests for Vex and Delvin before the Goldenglow estate job. This could make a lot of money fairly easily.
I've never seen Spiff actually play the game normally for this long. It's not long mind you. If Spiff doesn't exploit Skyrim then Todd will do it for you.
You have seen him play the game normaly when he was stacking potion and enchantment effects. Thats how the game is meant to be played, boosting your intelligence by a few thousand to make better potions to boost it further to make even better potions and enchantments. They made it quite clear that they expect it to be played that way with the wizard falling from the sky after boosting jump by 1000.
This might be a start of a nice series however painful. This was some great content and I enjoyed it immensely. Would definitely like to see more 100 day survival mode attempts.
I would definitely watch another attempt at this challenge. This video had a lot of genuine, laugh out loud moments. I honestly didn't think this was going to end with a death. I was just expecting a "Continued in Part 2". 😅
Bro I just recently got into Skyrim because of my wife (ironically enough I chose Skyrim having never played it before as HER introduction to gaming) and play it on Switch. I haven't had the courage to play any difficulty above expert yet. But dude... I absolutely LOVED this video. Thank you so much for the amazing content. ☺️
This was really cool. I've never played Skyrim, but watching you play this game like this vaguely reminded me of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (it also has permadeath and is also very difficult, although the resemblance largely ends there). It was fun! I hope you keep trying until you succeed. I'm aware that if you ever succeed it will probably be... a three hour video, but I'd watch it in its entirety. It was cool. 😊
