My dad is an optometrist, and he got a good laugh from this video.

The fact that they finally got rid of the glaucoma test makes me feel like I already have a “back in my day life was worse” story.

Tyler is the GOAT cartoonist. Easy S tier. Disney does even come fucking close. Hopefully one day they’ll be Brewstew theme parks all over the world for kids to feel magic and for dads to be angry the entire time. That’s the goal Tyler. Don’t stop til you get there!

Things sure have changed in the last 20 or so years, and I am wholeheartedly on Team Eye Doctor, 2023. I love how nervous Brewstew gets about the glaucoma test, only for it to actually be a little tickle on his eyeball. And how the jumpscare at 1:13 was so quiet and suppressed, yet it still scared the crap out of him.

This made my whole day worth it. You never disappoint.

As someone who has had 10 plus eye surgeries and developed glaucoma via an eye injury at age 5 I have been to the eye doctor a lot like a lot lot. The new glaucoma machines are so much better than what was used 20 years ago. Also amazing spot on funny video. keep up the good work BrewStew.

Optometrist here: For the glaucoma test, it depends what equipment the place you're going to has. I have the puff machine in one of my offices and patients *hate* it, but it's really fast and easy for me. Also, that steampunk-lookin' thing is called a phoropter. Thanks for the laugh. We get compared as 'better than the dentist' a lot.

Only differences being that my eye doctors have always been extremely patient women...and my first post-covid appointment last week left me wondering if the pandemic was still in full fling, as they were extremely adamant that they wouldn't let me stay without a mask. Had to get new glasses about half a year ago, after like 7 years of having my previous pair, and like Tyler, I too was surprised by how much the eye clinics have improved their craft in the years since, though I had to get the shotgun blast of air in both of eyes still. One thing about their tech that’s so awesome now is how you can get your glasses to have lenses that will tint in sunlight and it’s been so handy.

Awesome. Love the icare device in there. Game changer for people that actually have glaucoma and have to monitor it too. Both my wife and daughter have it, and I've been testing their pressures for years with one at home. Same model too. :) Bad news on the $35 to avoid dilating your eyes: the eye doctor next door explained that the machine replacement for whatever that test/observation is just doesn't do anywhere near as good of a job. Still neat though when my eye doctor used it on me.

Love the accuracy here. I've had bad eyes for over 25 years and get an exam once a year. A lot has definitely changed for the better. The puff of air is way better. When they dilate your eyes it used to last all day, now it's only a few hours. We still get those rolled up sunglasses though.

Your 5 minutes videos are more enjoyable than a 1 hour animation of the other storytellers

As someone who recently went to the eye doctor a few weeks ago, I was surprised when I learned about the new glaucoma device is now handheld! I bring this up because the doc I went to still uses the same device from like back in the early 2000s or whenever they were made. Don't get me wrong, my doctor is still one of the best (at least where I live), and does good work, but my god, I still can't believe that glaucoma device things can be that small! Props to you, Team Eye Doctor 2023.

Just a heads up for people who hate being dilated at the eye doc - you can usually ask for 0.5% tropicamide drops instead of the super strong ones a lot of the time. You won’t stay dilated for nearly as long.

I had my eyes checked in 2019 and it was still a pain in the ass. Had to go back multiple times and they were exactly like the assistant in this video. It was wild, they seemed to know exactly what they were doing and simultaneously had no clue what they were doing. They did help me figure out what was wrong with my eye though and how to fix it so it was very much worth it to an extent. The whole thing could have gone a lot smoother though and a lot cheaper.

I watch the previous eye doctor version and was scared to crap about the "puff of air" that even my doctor joked about. They don't do the wiggly thing on the eyeball sometimes but the blue light. If you see a whole bunch of squiggly lines when they do it, that is also the back of your eye. Kinda cool stuff. Fun experience. 10/10 would go again

As an optician I’m absolutely dying 😂 Great video! Everyone please don’t put off your visits to the eye doctor! There are a ton of health things we can tell through your eyes and you don’t want to push off the health of what I believe is our most importance sense!

Loved this. I never needed glasses until I was in my 30s, still only need them for night blindness, but my experience with my new eye doctor was amazing compared to the assholes I dealt with as a kid.

I can totally relate! Been going through this crap for the last two months, and Tuesday I have a consultation for cataract surgery, it's not like they'll throw me down and rip out my eyeballs, but I'm still chicken shit about it.

I HATE the dilations and glaucoma tests and is why I put off going to the eye doctor for as long as possible! Brewstew nailed it.

The part I hated most at the eye doctor was probably the peripheral vision test. You feel paranoid as hell because you’re not allowed to move your eyes but you’re trying to watch the corners without moving your 👁️.

I went to the eye doctor many times in VA and they always got my eyesight wrong for my glasses. But once I moved to WV, I went because my eyes needed new glasses and holy shit I could see like new, way better than my last ones. But I will agree, I hate that Glaucoma test but I didn't get that when I last went. Also great video as always, had me laughing good.

I'm 27 and I just got my first pair of glasses this month. I think this video would have been a lot less funny to me a few weeks ago. No dilation for me, but the barn and the puff of air were still involved where I went xD The pressure was real trying to figure out which was clearer. I'm glad to know that's common.
