She is way over-rated. Any student of acting, and any woman who hosts a talk show, news show, gives the weather or gives CNN or Fox news or commentary, could read a poem just as effectively. Any theatre actress, theatre student or woman who's used to speaking to large groups can read a poem. Many school teachers as well. Don't ya'll think it's MUCH MORE than a coincidence that Amanda Gorman is YOUNG and PRETTY? Come ON, people, if she were middle aged or obese or homely, she would NOT have been selected to read a poem at the inauguration or SB, and you stinking know it. I also have to believe that is she were WHITE, she would NOT have been selected. But these days, young, pretty, and especially black -- gets you lots of privilege. But even if AG was white, I'd STILL be saying the same thing: There is just too much hullabaloo over her. For godsake, she recited a poem with passion. This is not a one-in-a-million capability. Any adolescent involved in school plays can do this.

Sorry for long winded comment- But I haven’t commented on BRvid yet because I’m not usually logged in. this is a channel I watch from time to time; 🏙🚅. ( mile high city) Since standing in front of the tv holding hands with my soulmate- as we watched - goosebumps on our arms...I feel much more hopeful thinking of Colorful Colorado’s beautiful statues. I often felt creative and hopeful but with undertones of despair in 2019 when I sat under some stoic, stunning, funny & also ugly statues as I wrote in journals, letters , bits of poems, and started to read Stephen Kings “ on writing” . Now I’m actually putting his advice to use “ for real”. He dared me on a certain page of the book that I was now RE- reading. I was under a tree in Gillette, WY reading, social distancing- so afraid of covid that I sat on my jacket in case there were droplets. ON THE GRASS IN GILLETTE . In Gillette Wyoming. I still feel I was right to do my research and trust the truth. I am “vulnerable “ which is a term some human beings with disabilities would like to change someday. 👛👛👛👛👛👛👛👛 Thank you soooo much Lord for #Amanda . Maybe we will get a handle on covid if more people built one another up & came alongside to understand. So far no COVID-19 and still so far not a vaccine option for me that I would feel comfortable with. Waiting for science. And my doc.

I find it truly unbelievable that since the inauguration I have not seen anything mentioning this poem in any way, shape, or form? That day it seemed any news channel I saw was enthusiastic or even gushed about how spectacular this reading was. And I agreed wholeheartedly! But since that day I’m sort of shocked not to see more ... I dunno, some sort of recognition at the very least. I know I interpreted the poem to be a monumental moment for not only the people of the USA but I would hope the world. Her words I hope and I do not doubt will one day be celebrated for being a sort of guiding light for those who find the truth in it.

Speech or poem...what a pretentious and insufferable individual!...just watching and listening to her for a couple of minutes was nauseatingly enough to know anyone who has to communicate with her needs to be aware of this individuals ‘neediness’ for ‘adoration’…’clever’, yes, but omg will she ever find anyone that will be able to love her a fraction of how much she loves herself…and at her age, that is worrying…she needs to get over herself or she’s in for a world of perpetual disappointment…that others will pay for! All the drivel…sorry comments here will not be helping this already confused poor girl…all written with the best intentions I’m sure.
@cnmmd qiuoo OK?…not really sure if you want me to reply…I’m happy someone has been able to express 'your' views for you?...but for ‘OMFG…I lurv me so much, I’m wet!’, I think she is going to have to work very hard to ensure her veneer doesn’t peel away while riding the wave of ‘tokenism’. It is possible that you are able to see something beyond the shallowness of a puddle that I see. But unfortunately, to me she comes across as more than a bit extreme, unhinged and a potential ‘bunny boiler’ for any poor guy that gets sucked in…but hey, we all see differences in each other and that is what makes the world so diverse and fun.

She was introduced as the "nation's first national poet laureate" but shouldn't he have said "National youth poet laureate"? She isn't the first poet laureate America has had. Robert Frost and others comes to mind.
I’m a history teacher in rural WV. I showed the inauguration in my classes, as I would have regardless of party. WV is a 2+/1 Trump state. Many of my students’ beliefs and words on political issues come from what they hear at home. However, this young lady captivated most of them regardless of beliefs. As I stood at the back of my room, I saw students who had earlier been upset that we were watching Biden’s inauguration, start to smile and have a look of awe on their faces. Most, I don’t think truly listened to the words but were in shock by someone so young, having such poise and presence on stage. Others, who I know were happy about the inauguration were listening to every word she said and they took it to heart. The next day, I showed this to all of my classes that didn’t get a chance to see it the day before. I have a few black female students and I made a point to watch their reactions. I saw a change in all of them as Amanda spoke. You could see a change in posture, you could see their back straighten, their chins rise, and huge smiles on their faces, as they took it all in. I honestly had to step out in the hallway and wipe the tears from my face after witnessing this. I think they realized in that moment, they can do anything they want and shouldn’t feel held back by the people around them. I couldn’t imagine being a young black female in rural America. I feel an obligation to show those students how much bigger the world is. I feel that showing them Amanda’s poem has been the biggest success yet. Thank you for giving your Words and Wisdom to us, Amanda! You truly are changing the world one word at a time! You’ve made this 35yo, white male history teacher in rural America cry tears of happiness many times over the last few days. You’ve opened hearts of many and the eyes of young girls who are beginning to find their way! So much love to you!❤️
Are the people of the USA as deeply and dangerously divided as a few of the comments under this video would suggest? Consider the number of such comments. It's a tiny number, even when compared to the number who have viewed this video, let alone the wider population. They seek to create a smokescreen to reason. The vast majority, whose persuasion or at least the language they would use is more moderate, are not represented by the extremes expressed here. It's time for the majority, the core, the great and good, the powerhouse, the equal, the united, to take the country forward once again, as they have in the past. Good on Amanda Gorman by the way; that was well worth a listen.
