2023 Toyota Sequoia Arrives with a Standard Hybrid Powertrain
Toyota's full-size SUV shares a platform with the new Tundra, but the only engine choice is the 437-hp twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 hybrid.
This is the 2023 Toyota Sequoia full-size three-row SUV, and it shares many components with the 2022 Tundra pickup.
It comes standard with the iForce MAX hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 that produces a total of 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque.
Arriving in the summer, it'll be available in SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and Capstone models starting at around $50,000.
Toyota is revamping its ancient body-on-frame offerings with technology from the modern era, including better interiors with massive touchscreens, coil-sprung rear suspensions, and more efficient powertrains. The 2022 Tundra pickup arrived first, aiming to capture a larger share of the full-size-pickup market dominated by Ford, Chevy, and Ram, and now the new 2023 Sequoia full-size SUV is here with similar upgrades. And it only comes as a hybrid.
Like the new Tundra, the Sequoia is built on Toyota's TNGA-F platform, but it's shorter in length compared with the full-size pickup. This platform also underpins the new global Land Cruiser and Lexus LX, but the former isn't sold here anymore. The Sequoia now uses a solid rear axle instead of an independent setup like the previous-generation and the Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and Jeep Wagoneer. Rear air springs and adaptive dampers are available, and the off-road-oriented TRD Pro model has 2.5-inch Fox dampers with internal-bypass chambers and remote reservoirs and 33-inch Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires.

When it goes on sale this summer, the Sequoia will be available in SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, and Capstone (a fully loaded, luxury model first introduced on the Tundra) models with two- or four-wheel drive available. A TRD Sport package is available on the SR5 model that adds black TRD wheels, Bilstein dampers, and other TRD accents. Newly available on the Sequoia SR5 and Limited models is a TRD off-road package, and it adds a locking rear differential, Bilstein dampers, black 18-inch TRD wheels, Multi-Terrain Select off-road drives modes, and off-road cruise control.

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia will be built alongside the Tundra at Toyota's factory in San Antonio, Texas. Pricing is expected to start close to $50,000 and reach around $70,000 for the fully loaded Capstone model.

Toyota finally did the interior right! in the past, their interiors looked extremely chunky, plastic-y, and outdated. This new interior is fresh and beautiful. I hope all of their cars adopt this style interior soon.

I like how they don’t introduce any of the Sequoia trims as a Hybrid but it gives Hybrid type power and fuel efficiency. Good behind-the-scenes benefits

The cargo area of the sequoia is severely compromised by the battery. As a result the seats do not fold flat. The Tahoe or the expedition have more utility

Sequoia ftw. Tahoes aren't bad but having spent years working on cars I always dreaded them. I never had to waste time figuring out some weird issue (that I knew the owner couldn't afford to fix) on a Toyota. Also I absolutely hate those knob shifters.

The tahoe has way better cargo room in the back. Would be nice if the toyota had the same since it will benefit people who would go off road to sleep in. I think they mess that part up in my OP.

I read somewhere that they will address this problem in 2023.

It's a tradeoff of having solid axle on the rear vs rear independent suspensions on the GMs. If you look at all new GM SUV from the back, you'll see all the the rear suspensions components just inches from ground. Looking on the side, the GM grasshopper lift on the rear gives buyer a fault impression that it has high ground clearance. In reality, the rear suspensions are almost down to the grounds. Compare that to previous Tahoe generations, it's an embarrassment.

Sequioa wins but the cargo space.... man that cargo space needs to be revamped. I love that Toyota has not swapped to those weird turn dial shifters and has kept somdthing that we can hold onto. The center console could be slimmer as well, but my main complaint is the cargo. Everything else wins
BrianNC81

Except for that crappy cargo area in the back that you can't fit dog kennels in because the third row does not fold flat and is not removable.

Doubt it. People buying these want lots of cargo space and third row comfort. This is very lacking in both compared to competition. It is gonna be excellent as an overlander, but most people aren't dropping 70k with off roading as primary goal
BrianNC81
BrianNC81 3 meses atrás
This is not a large SUV. Have you seen the cargo area in the back? The hybrid battery makes it so you can't fold the third row flat. Pretty useless for people that want to haul their dogs around in crates in the cargo hold.

New Yukon and Tahoe has the shitty Rear-Axel problem, these Axels are so close to the ground that a Ford Crown Vic would be better at off-roading
tommieboi707
tommieboi707 Mês atrás
@brow1920 it absolutely has a rear axle. It's rwd biased is it not? Which means it has a drive shaft that that pairs up with a rear axle/differential. The issue with an irs setup instead of a solid axle is that the differential and links on the Tahoe is so close to the ground that it hinders off road performance. Sequoia will be the better off road vehicle now.

Well, what makes me amazed it is the absolute crap cargo solution of Toyota (wtf???) and also a considerably smaller cargo space. Next point is the production quality of the seats (compare it at 3:45). At least optically it doesn't look convinced. I like also the design of Tahoe more (Toyota's is also not bad). Tahoe is my winner, but wait... What about reliability?

@Jim Cole well it's not as if Toyotas hasn't had flaws in the past, the good thing about Toyota is they'll fix them over time rather than scrubbing and starting over new, are we in like the year 13 of the current model Sequoia? I'm sure the first year of this generation had some issues they had to deal with

Dear followers!! Don't let the beautiful pictures confuse you . Anyone who buys a new car from GENERAL Motors the chance you threw your money into the trash is very large. In this company there is no customer service, the company's management does not care at all, if you have a problem or a malfunction, you can only pray to God there is a chance that the help will come faster. GM is a very dangerous company, be careful and keep your money safe.!!!Share so more people don't get screwed.GM is a big bluf

EVERYTHING about the Toyota just looks better inside and out. What happened to the American design teams at Chevy? Only hiring trashy feelings based millennials it would appear? Sigh. I’m making the switch to a Sequoia, bye Chevy! It’s like Chevy separates the exterior design teams and one teams designs the front and another the back and the other the sides and undercarriage and they only see each other’s design AFTER they make them for sale lol! That’s why Zebra Corner BRvid channel calls Chevy “SHITTY”. Hahaha
