great review, Im still conflicted between the Bowtech and PSE Mach 1. Good luck with this upcoming hunting season. Do you ever compile your ratings and equipment score into a single video/document.

Thank you. I did not compile it all in a document; just the video. Those are both great choices!

Hello good video and thank you for the effort. When you make video of this type is really helpful to add bookmarks in the timeline and/or in the description so it is easy to jump to each bow. Just a tip for future thanks!

Well, they each had their strengths for sure. If I could, I would buy the Bowtech and the PSE Carbon. I love the tuning of the Bowtech and the light weight of the PSE Carbon. Really, I think if I had to pick one, it would be the Revolt X. They didn't have any at the shop when I did this test, so I didn't include it.

Well, they were all so different and decent at the same time. But the Bear would be my least favorite.

I have a PSE STEALTH CARBON AIR and it's a badass bow and I have shot most of the ones you tested, I agree for the most part. The biggest names all did awesome on their bows this year and before 2019 I was a Hoyt/Mathews man but after I shot the EVOLVE CAM it was all over. Not to much shock and fast as hell, I'm getting 290s out of 65 pounds and 281/2 inches with a 400 grain arrow so I'm a happy Hunter.

@Francisco Carbini oh yes it's a very solid bow. After I bought mine, and I also couldn't try, I was a little worried I might not like it but do not worry. This bow is easy to draw, smooth, fast, light weight, and my favorite in 25+ years of bowhunting.

Does the carbon riser and evolve cam feels solid? I looking for a lightweight bow, and i need an opinion from an owner ( i live in argentina so i cant try it) i want to change my halon 6 because its to much heavyweight and the valley its to short, so results me uncomfortable

Lusk, what an amazing review, very informative and clear. I'm From Argentina so that's it means that I can't come out go to a store and try what bow it's better to me, I have to make a blind buy. because of that I really appreciate these kind of videos. I want to ask you about the quality of construction of pse carbon mach one. does the bow feels solid? . Today im shooting a mathews halon 6 but its have a short valley and to much aggressive cam that on my short draw (25 inch) feels uncomfortable even with 85% let off, also Its feel really heavy. I'm want to change it and I looking for some light and smoothest cam bow
Lusk Archery Adventures
Thank you Francisco, I really appreciate it. The new PSE carbon is very nice! It is very lightweight but has a solid feel to it. I'd be totally confident hunting with it for sure.

I like this review. I find that what works for me doesn't work for you. I haven't shot any of this years bows yet but I will. Last year I shot almost all of them. I still didn't get a new bow but I will. I shot bows that people told me was the best and found better. There were things I liked about all of them and disliked as well. Last year for me the Bowtech was the best, mathews second. They were so close it was hard to decide but the draw cycle and speed is what made the Bowtech better. The mathews was more comfortable and price made it a close second. The hoyt wasn't even close. but thats just my opinion. The only thing about it that made me consider it was the price. I will get out and shoot them all again and I am sure I will choose one this time. Thanks for your opinion.
Troy Westerbur
Troy Westerbur 2 meses atrás
@Lusk Archery Adventures yes indeed. If all things were equal tests would be make more sense but also the bow might shoot better with different broadheads, weights, inserts, arrows in general. But either way very good information for a place to start. As for slower moving arrows the heavier they are the better. So i do use the rings that come with so im at 125. And trust me that makes a big difference with the alpha heads.
Lusk Archery Adventures
Thank you Troy. You're so right in saying what works for one person may not for another. These vids are just designed to give some data points to help guide your selection; lot provide a bit more perspective. But nothing replaces the value of shooting the bows yourself. Good luck brother!

Swamper 91
Swamper 91 2 meses atrás
@Lusk Archery Adventures I see I was wondering why they were not in there. I am a bowtech guy but definitely not brand loyal. I like to see how they all stack up and the ups and downs. Yes we do have an outfitting business here in Saskatchewan. My brother and I are taking over my Dads outfitting business which he ran for 30 years. We are currently offering some wicked deals on spring Bear as we are just starting. We took our first 2 groups of whitedail hunters this past fall and we were booked solid for Waterfowl. Obviously with all the craziness going and borders closed no bear hunters this spring unless it all calms down but we decided we are going to offer the same deal for next spring.
Lusk Archery Adventures
Thank you Swamper 91. I appreciate the encouragement. I would like to include the Prime. Unfortunately, the nearest shop is a few hours away from me. In this particularly line up, I'm limited to the bows that are sold at this particular shop. I did get to test the Primes at the ATA this year, and spent a good chunk of time with the designer. I really liked them and would like to do a more formal test of them in the future. And I do love hunting spring bears! I've hunted in Manitoba and Alberta, but not Saskatchewan. Do you have an outfit there?

Great review. Which bow do you recommend for heavier arrows (650-950 grain)? Is the fastest bow most adequate or are there other variables that need to be accounted for? General speaking
Lusk Archery Adventures
Thank you Robin. What a great question. I just got back from Africa, where I did a Cape Buffalo hunt. So I worked quite a bit on heavier set ups. You can see the vid of my Cape Buffalo arrow build for some info on that. Any bow is much more efficient with a heavier arrow. As the weight increases, so does the momentum, even if the poundage of the bow stays the same. But the faster the bow, the flatter the trajectory will be. With a really heavy arrow, that arc in the flight can be really extreme with lower speed bows. So I'd go with the fastest bow and the heaviest arrow you can, while staying within your hunting style needs.

If you were to buy 1 of the flagship bows from this review, which would it be.
Lusk Archery Adventures
That's a great question. Overall, I would choose the Revolt X. I did not include the Revolt X in this test, cause the shop had run out of them. Now if I were only hunting out west, and was looking for a backcountry bow, it would be the PSE.

27" draw at 70# with a 455 grain arrow? That's almost my identical setup! Finally a test from someone without a draw length of infinity! I own the BTX 28 and bought it the year it came out. I have no plans of ever switching unless companies start making cams like mine that are made for my 27" draw. No point in buying a new bow with 31" max draw when I can't get any performance out of them.

Of all the bows I tried I was pleasantly surprised with the bowtech revolt X and the Hoyt Axius. I thought the bowtech would be the worst and the Hoyt second worst and they were the best two by far. The prime black3 was the worst and the Mathews has a very hard draw, to the point I thought a 70# bow was at least 75 maybe 80. Besides that all the bows were nice but the draw cycles on prime black series was so bad I would not shoot it if I was payed. And the Mathews were hard to draw but not as bad as the black series. And 7” brace is minimum needed for a hunting bow. Anything under 7 should have a warning on it saying “for professional archers” or at least shoot daily. A hunting bow with short brace is horrible because most guys don’t shoot unless it’s hunting season and that makes for less consistent and small brace heights are very hard to shoot consistently unless you shoot daily
Michigan Aim

Dude 4.6 is the heaviest of the heavy target bows. My 2014 creed XS 3.8 pounds and is still the lightest smoothest drawing bow I have ever felt. I have a trx40 and it is smooth but not as smooth as the creed xs and the creed shoots 329fps with a solo cam so no timing issues to worrry about. It is the most reliable lightweight hunting bow ever made. I have had it in the woods dragging it across the ground and bushes for 3 years every single day of hunting season and I stalked walking around for 80% of it. The bow even flew off my van at 20mph to the street and cracked the trophy ridge pro react but still dead accurate and nothing else broke just a few paint chips.

John Aragon
John Aragon 3 meses atrás
@Lusk Archery Adventures Thank you for your response I highly respect your honesty. I upgraded the the Whisker Biscuit to a dropaway to a Hamski the Tinity drop away and the sight to Trophy ridge react 5. It shoots very well.
Lusk Archery Adventures
That's a great bow. It is made by Diamond, which is a subsidiary of Bowtech. It won Field & Stream's Budget Bow Blowout Contest. It's a perfect first bow and will be very effective in hunting, for years to come. The IBO speed is 318. If you were to upgrade, and spend a lot more money, you would increase that speed to about 335. That's certainly not necessary for anything in N America. You're good to go, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Matthew Baney
Matthew Baney 3 meses atrás
This review showed exactly why advertised ibo speeds are irrelevant. The hoyt and Mathews both had advertised ibo speeds of around 10 fps, give or take a couple fps, more than the bow tech, yet the bow tech was about 5 fps faster.
Lusk Archery Adventures
Well, that's partly true. Some companies inflate their IBOs a bit and some understate them. But additionally, different bows have different speeds at draw lengths other than the IBO draw length. For example, there could be two bows with identical speeds at 29" but very different speeds at 27".
tiestu
tiestu 3 meses atrás
Conclusion; they are all good, just check for yourself at your archery shop . Why am I looking at this ?
Lusk Archery Adventures
Because I highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of each one. I can't tell you what kind of bow you want, nor can anyone. If you're looking for a lightweight western bow, then the Mach 1 is perfect. If you're not able to bring a bow to a shop and you need to tune it yourself, the Bowtech Revolt is perfect. Each person has to weigh out what matters most to them. If I had to pick one bow for everything, it would be the Revolt. If I had to pick one just for western hunting, it would be the Mach 1.

Sir, that was a really great review of the new bow technologies, handling, and speed performance. I appreciate your reviews because I have the same DL as you, and gain perspective on how the bows are going to perform at a 27in DL. I really like your reviews because you are respectful of all the brands... plus you don't run us through 2 hours of advertisements for targets, accessories, arrows, etc. I also enjoyed your perspective on companies flipping from speed to shoot-ability. I was really hoping to see the new BT Deadlock technology on last year's Sr-6 cam. Got ask, do you prefer this year's Revolt over last year's SR6?
Lusk Archery Adventures
Thank you. What an encouraging comment. I really appreciate it. I felt the same about your last comment. I still have that hope! I LOVE my SR6 and the speed with smoothness it gives. I also LOVE the tunability of the Revolt, but not enough to switch to a Revolt. An SR6 with that Deadlock tech would be the perfect bow!

When I started over 20 years ago a quality bow was around $500 to $700 and now you add a $1000 to that so I will keep what I have as there is nothing else I need today.I have always been a Hoyt shooter and that won't change.
Lusk Archery Adventures
Yep, they've increased a lot...but so has just about everything in the last 20 years. You certainly don't need the stuff that makes the bows so expensive. But then again, do we really "need" that new truck or "need" that huge tv? Prices are all relative to budgets and passions.

It's because of the carbon they use. No other arrow uses that grade of carbon--Toray USA Prepreg. Same carbon that Kuiu uses for its tent poles. It's straightness is sub .001" at 35" and it's incredibly durable for such a light shaft. Their other arrows are amazing as well, with a modular design, varying from a .350 stiffness all the way to a .050 stiffness. Amazing? Yes. Pricey? Yes.

Also, I have found from experience and I’m sure you have also that if you do not draw board tune bows and get them back to the actual manufacturer specifications before you shoot them for the purpose of comparing to see which one is fastest or smoothest draw or has the best feeling let off. Out of all the bows that come from the factory that people buy only maybe 1 or 2 out of 10 will even be close to the draw length it says, or the amount of let off it says or even the correct poundage when limbed out. So hopefully you checked the draw length on all the bows and made sure they were all exactly 27 and were all exactly 70 pounds. I really like how unbiased you were or should I say how unbiased you sounded lol, really enjoyed the video. P.S I have a Mathews Triax that is supposed to be 29” but is actually about 29 1/2 to 3/4 depending on where you have the limbs set at and with the “brand new limbs and strings and cables” it Limbs out at 65.7 lbs. I’m waiting on another new string and then will draw board it and get it back to complete manufacturer specs next Wednesday and hopefully it will be where it’s supposed to be 😁
Lusk Archery Adventures
Yeah, I checked all of the bows in all those ways before I did the tests. Thanks for sharing that.

A great unbiased video Sir, many many thanks for your post. I’ve been eyeing several new bows for a while now and will be putting a deposit down on a Bowtech BT Mag X at months end. Apparently Christmas DOES come in February. Just don’t tell my girlfriend please. Hahaha That said Sir, APA here in Canada are FANTASTIC bows, they are truly great instruments. Yet I’ve never seen you test one. Also, while mainly known for their Olympic bows, Win&Win make wonderful hunting/compound bows too. I own their SWAT and it’s a beauty. Their ‘ top shelf ‘ models will rival ANYTHING that I’ve seen here on BRvid. Is there a reason why you don’t include them in your tests Sir? They are amongst the finest shooters on earth. Again Sir, Thank You for your great post. Cheers from Canada

I did. It was awesome. But I had to leave early cause a big snow storm was hitting Iowa.

Again well done just missing g5 prime
Lusk Archery Adventures
Yeah, they don't sell them anywhere near me. I was limited to what they sell in this shop. I did get to test them out at the ATA and they were nice.

When shooting several of the same bows you mentioned, I found the bowtech to sound off with a metallic thunk a the shot. The elite was very buzzy. Similar to the Synergy I own until I tweaked the string stop. The VXR was better in almost all categories but had a hard stack at the back end of the draw cycle (STILL SMOOTH THOUGH), PSE's most impressive line up by far (remove the grip Mr Lusk), the bear was right up there with the line up, Hoyt well they need to pull there head out of their rump cause they have dropped off over the years. Cost wise, hoyt and bowtech are most costly aluminum, overdrive (not a really big deal, same with elite) shimming isn't really a big deal, less moving parts to fail at some point, more isn't always better. Let's see the rest of the industry catch up. The integrate mount on rests please (All manufacturers) and weights, jeesh they are all pigs (lighten up). Over all, little things make some improvements. Good hunting!

Thanks for sharing those thoughts. Much appreciated.

Nice overview/review. I wish some folks would understand that the ibo rating means nothing. I know the 27" draw is short and has a decent impact on speed. But ibo rated at 325+ and throwing a real arrow at 260fps is a pretty huge spread. I see some of these methheads saying their carbon vortex are shooting and 320+fps lol. I have three bows, none are high end like these. I have a old hoyt powertec, reflex extreme and a vortex (I couldn't help but grab it because it was new for $65 and it came with a new doghouse popup blind). The reflex was given to me by my brother. The hoyt was $200 but came with easily $200 worth of extras. The hoyt and reflex are all I need. The vortex is just sitting. I pulled it back after setting it up and it made more noise than my knees when I stand up lol.

True. Thank you for watching and commenting. Much appreciated.

The fact you don't have Prime involved in this conversation completely proves you have no idea what you're doing. On to the next review.
Lusk Archery Adventures
Well, no, it just proves that this shop didn't carry Prime :) I could only test the bows that they had there. I did get to shoot the Prime at the ATA this past week; it was very nice!

Lusk, do me a favor and quit calling these bow battles. Your voice and attitude don't say battle. I swear this is the nicest critique I've ever seen. Each of these companies ought to call you and say thank you for your constructive criticism of our product and we hope to impress you in the near future. 🤣
Lusk Archery Adventures
Haha. That's funny. I do try to be respectful of each of the bows. They all have their strengths and none of them were flops in any way, shape, or form. I am glad to share my perspective and comparisons, but don't think I need to slam any of them for it to be a bow battle. But thanks for the feedback just the same; I do appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment.

Please do not look at the camera at full draw - we can still hear you and you still get your point across but you scare the poo out of me - waiting for you to derail the bow - please do not show people what they should not do. Thank you for the info and your research...
Lusk Archery Adventures
Well, I appreciate your concern, but there's really no fear of that for me. There is such a huge let off, I'm only holding about 20 pounds. But I did just get a new mic so I can do stuff like that more readily. Thank you.

Hi mate the bows i have fallen in love with this year are the pse nxt 31 , the bowtec and the mathews vxr 28 . the mathews cost $400 more rhan the pse here in Australia wich equates to a quiverlizer and half way to a reasonable sight here . out of these two wich would you pick and why ? Also if you have any other sagestions in the sub 33ata lenth? Anyone wanting to way in on this is welcome too

@Lusk Archery Adventures thanks mate for your reply. i haven't had the opertunity to shoot any i live 3-4 hours from my nearest shop and they dont let you draw the bow. Im looking to get a reasonably fast bow i want to shoot heavy arrows and i only have a 28" draw
Lusk Archery Adventures
Honestly, those are all great choices. You're not going to go wrong with any of them. I'd get whatever suits you best, in budget, hunting style, and feel. I think Bowtech is really making some outstanding strides recently. Have you shot a Bowtech SR6? That is the smoothest bow for the speed that I've ever shot. At longer draw lengths I hear it's not nearly as smooth as it is at shorter lengths. But I've really liked the PSE and the Evolve cams as well.
